Any form of home renovation can be extremely stressful, remodeling the kitchen is no exception. Even if you don't do it by yourself there are still lots of people in your kitchen preventing you from living as normal. There's also a lot of hammering and drilling all day long, it really can become extremely annoying!
Most people would put up with that, safe in the knowledge that in a few days they will have a lovely new kitchen to use. However they will then tell you that you shouldn't use the room for a couple of days because of the strong smell of solvents and paints used. This can be very irritating, knowing that you've got a perfectly good kitchen but being unable to use it!
It is possible to reduce the stress you experience, here are some kitchen renovation survival tips.
Temporary Kitchen
Your kitchen gets a lot of use, its used to prepare at least 3 meals a day. Living without your kitchen can be very difficult, however if you set up a temporary kitchen it can help you to continue as normal.
You should find a place where you can move your microwave, fridge and any other gadgets that you really couldn't live without. If you are going to relocate your stove then make sure the space has sufficient ventilation otherwise it can be extremely dangerous. The most important part of your temporary kitchen is a water supply and sink. You need water not only to drink but also to cook with. This temporary kitchen can make your life less stressful, especially if you have young children!
If you're struggling to know where to place your temporary kitchen then pretty much any space will do. You could set it up in the basement, or even in your garden assuming the weather is ok. The best place to install your temporary kitchen would be in your garage, because most of these already have water and electricity plumbed in.
Preparation is very important
Before you start to remodel your kitchen you should seal off the kitchen and prevent people getting into it. This is especially important if you have children in the house as we all know how much mess they can make! Kids will often wander into your kitchen just to have a nose around, this can be quite difficult for contractors to work. Ask if your contractor doesn't mind fitting something onto the doors of your kitchen so people can't enter easily.
Sealing off is also important so that the dust does not get carried around the rest of your home. It can take a very long time to clean up this dust.

How to Pick the right Contractor to do the work
There are hundreds of different contractors on offer, so how can you choose a suitable one? There are lots of reliable contractors that will remodel your on a tight budget. There are also some contractors that dont know what they are doing, they simply pretend so that they can get your money. You should avoid these contractors, otherwise you could end up with a horrible kitchen.
It can be difficult to find suppliers that really know what they are doing, rather than ones that simply pretend. The best way to find a reliable contractor to remodel your kitchen is to ask for a list of references, if possible phone some of his most recent clients and ask what they thought. If the clients are not impressed with the work, or the contractor is unwilling to give you the informatin then you should be cautious about using him. Be very cautious if the prices are too low as they may just intend to take your money and run!
If only a couple of people said that they were not satisfied with the work of the contractor then it is up to you whether you use the contractor. Try to find out why they did not appreciate the work. If they get three satisfied customers out of five then it's not really that bad a proportion. Be sure to check the refund terms if you are not completly satisfied with the results. The contractor should be willing to sign the agreement if they are confident in the service that they intend to provide.
