Making your own tarot cards s a fascinating experience. No matter how well you plan or how inspired your ideas are, the actual process of creation takes on an energy of its own. Before you know it, you are tumbling head over heels, heels over head, together with the tarot such that you will not know for sure whether you are making your own tarot cards, or they are making you.

If you have an adventurous spirit and a passion for tarot, however, jump in and give it a try. Just remember that you are committing to the creation of a total of 23 different and very complicated graphics. Whether you are a skilled artist, an art enthusiast, or simply not good at art at all, you should at least admit to the artistic quality required of the cards. You can execute this artistic quality either by your own hand and skill, or you may employ the talents of someone else who will produce your vision. You may also want to play with photography and photo-editing to create your own cards.

Be careful though, not to get so caught up in the art of the cards that you miss what makes a good deck really good. That is, you have to have a background knowledge of the esoteric qualities that shape real tarot. You have to have a special level of discernment in order to know what add to, takes away from, or even hides the light of tarot insights.

Things to consider in making your own tarot cards 1. Take is easy on yourself. Unless you are a professional artist, do not fret over the need for perfect images. Aim to see your cards with loving eyes. 2. Consider how you use tarot. Do you use reversed cards? If so, you will want to be sure to use a card stock paper with a design on the back so that your backs are all universal and not likely to give away what the card is. You could also stencil or stamp the backs of your cards, so long as they are uniform. 3. Size matters. You should make your cards a size and shape that is comfortable for you, regardless of how they might feel to others. Play around with different sizes and practice the shuffling and handling so you can be sure of your decision. 4. Materials - use high quality materials in the creation of your cards so they will endure the course of time without fading, smearing, tearing, etc. Because you will be investing so much of your time and energy into this project, it is only natural that you will want the deck to survive lots of use.

Before you begin to make your own tarot cards, spend some time browsing book stores (used bookstores are great for this activity) and searching online for more tips and ideas. Most of all, get ready for an incredible encounter with your very own living deck!
