There is a fairly large amount of research about the potential benefits of nutritional supplements during periods of alcohol withdrawal. The greatest focus here has been on the B-complex vitamins, although all of the major vitamins (vitamins A, C, D, and E in addition to the B-complex vitamins) have been found to play a potentially helpful role.
Another important finding has been that cutting out sugar and caffeine can also reduce cravings for alcohol. When we refer to sugars, we also mean desserts, cakes, candy and fizzy drinks. Fruit and juices should also been taken in small doses and cut back on your sugar in tea and coffee.
Caffeine too needs to be cut right out of the diet meaning no less then zero tea and coffee (unless it is decaf), and just to add insult to injury chocolate is also on the list, so just a couple of squares if you get really desperate. Funnily enough it has been proved that simple sugars and caffeine affect the blood sugar regulation and that if we are able to control the blood sugar level, we will actually reduce the alcohol (sugar) SS cravings. In a nutshell, if you are able to forget about caffeine and sugar then you are on the road to reducing alcohol craving.
You mustn't forget that your diet must not be affected with all those reductions and make sure you manage to get in as many nutrient-rich foods as possible. You will need all the strength you can get both mentally and physically to keep on track and also internally just so your liver is able to deal with the detoxification processes.
The only way to achieve this objective is by eating as healthily as possible as healthy food sources contain the majority of the nutrients that we require to meet our goals. We will probably have extremely low stocks of all the basic vitamins and minerals as alcohol has a way of depleting them, so let's make a real effort for once and get healthy.
