Product Packaging – It��s All In The Details

With the economy being in shambles and companies not knowing their future it is imperative for all companies to make their mark and stand out amongst their competition. Many companies chose to skimp on their products to save money but little do they know that this is hurting their business even more.



Clever product packaging can make or break your business. Nobody wants to buy a thirty-five dollar t-shirt and have it stuffed into a two-dollar FedEx bag. When a customer receives a product they purchased online and they are wowed before they even open the package, your company has achieved its mission. There have been many times I've purchase something online and get the product stuffed into a crumpled up box; I am almost instantly disappointed. The reason Netflix has become a household name is because people have associated the red envelope with a gift! Consumers get happy when they see the bright red Netflix envelope in the mailbox. This is a perfect example of the goal every company should have. Many companies these days don't think people notice the difference between receiving a product in a box covered in a fun logo or in a dumpy half opened box. Trust this; consumers notice everything and a little extra effort in the packaging department goes a long way. Customers are more likely to tell their friends about the great experience they had just opening your package, if you as a company put a little time and effort into the details. People shop for details and they look forward to details. Picture a t-shirt arriving in the mail with a unique box covered in a bright color and your company logo. This box, instead of being thrown away, will most likely hang around to house other items in the home. For example: Tiffany & Co, I don't see any woman that I've ever met, throw away a Tiffany box. Have you? In saying this, the more unique and clever you're packaging the more likely you will receive repeat customers.

In today's society you must do everything you can to stand out. With so much clutter everywhere you turn, you have to go above and beyond to make an impact on someone's buying habits. If you are trying to sway customers away from your competitors then your product packaging will have to be the focus of your business model. To some, it's just a box, but that box tells a story and that story is what keeps consumers wanting more. Getting your customers talking about the packaging will lead them into talking about the product; that is how your brand will spread like wildfire.

Good branding goes a lot further than most business owners think. If a product's packaging could get your customer smiling and talking before they open the package, than you're that much closer to having a satisfied customer. For any company who sells a commodity like t-shirts or watches the product packaging is what allows your to differentiate yourself within your industry. Consumers notice details and over time your clever packaging design will become what people remember. Spend time focusing on your product design and you will see your brand move to the next level.
