Improving a poor credit score is very important and steps can be taken to begin credit report repair in 60 days or less. This involves both credit report repair and doing what you can to ensure that your credit rating is as good as it can possibly be. Of course, all your problems won't vanish away within two months time, but you can certainly improve your credit rating greatly.
Credit History
Your credit history is your own unique record that lists the times you have borrowed and from which lenders as well as when you paid them back. Included in the report are each time that you failed to pay on time and bankruptcy. Whenever you hear terms like credit history, credit score, and credit reputation, you should realize they are all the same.
Every time you apply for credit from a bank, store, or credit card company, your information is forwarded to a credit bureau, as are any other updates. This is how the credit bureau stays on top of changes like when you move to a new address, your status of current credit accounts, and all other changes since your last attempt to gain credit.
Pay down your Cards and Other Lines of Credit
Clearly, you need to pay down your debt. To raise your credit score you will need to lower the amount of debt in which you owe. For example, if the credit card company gives you a $5,000 credit line, don't use more than $3,000. If you have already done so, pay them down as much as possible and your credit report will improve.
Correct Mistakes
It won't take much time or effort to correct any wrong information. Because there is so much information that changes so often, creditors make mistakes. To make sure they haven't made any mistakes on your personal information, you will need to get a hold of your credit report for review. Give your information a look over and make sure all purchases were made by you, so that you can ensure that you have not fallen victim to identity theft. Your information should be correct and up to date.
Make Contact with Your Creditors
There are many occasions when your creditors can help you with your credit report repair. In the event that you make proper corrections to your account or bring it back to being current, you should ask your creditors to update that status on your credit report. This process will take a little while, but it can certainly be done within the time frame of a couple of months. If you have been diligent in bringing your accounts current, then most creditors will help you out in this regard.
Refrain From Using Quick Fix Services
No matter what you may read, credit repair services are not good services. Their offer is better than their service and they will request money before they will work. More and more people desperately seek a quick fix only to realize that they've been scammed by one of these companies. It is your responsibility to repair your credit, and you can do so with these tips.
Repair Your Credit Report
For people with bad credit, finding an easy way to get out from under a heavy debt burden is very tempting. Creditors and collection bureaus are calling and demanding payment, at home and perhaps even at work. There just doesn't seem to be a way out from under that heavy debt load.
The sad fact is that the "fast" credit repair offers are usually just scams - designed to take your money and result in no better credit than before. In some cases your credit score may deteriorate. And in the worst case scenario you may be committing fraud.
Some of the most common tactics are:
1. Claiming to "wipe your credit report clean". This usually involves getting an employer ID, which the debtor then uses as their new identifying number when applying for credit. This is fraudulent and unethical. It's easily discovered by creditors, who have access to prior addresses, employment, and other information - and are not just looking at a social security number.
Changing your name to avoid paying creditors or attempting to obtain a new social security number to create a new credit report is also fraudulent.
2. Claiming to get you immediate credit no matter how bad your credit score is. This too often involves getting a business line of credit based on an employer ID and not your personal social security number. The terms of these loans can be outrageous, if you even successfully qualify - many creditors still want you to see your personal credit.
3. Reducing the amount of your debt by 20, 30, 50% or more. The companies that agree to help you cut down your debt will often charge a huge fee for this service. Despite this, a debtor can often just do the same thing themselves for free by contacting credit card companies themselves. These companies will negotiate with your lenders and credit card companies on your behalf, but you can say the same things when you contact your creditors. Also while you might have lowered your debt, the amount you're not paying will show up as a "charge off" - meaning the bank didn't collect it. This is a big a black mark on your credit report as any.
Some debt settlement companies will negotiate with the creditors for a reduced loan balance and then collect the payment from the debtor for several months or years before paying off that reduced loan balance for the debtor. What these settlement companies don't tell you is that while the debtor, that's you, is paying the settlement company, the creditor can still file legal proceedings to collect the balance owed to them, the full amount, not just the negotiated new balance.
Be careful when applying for "fast" credit repair programs. It took months, even years for your credit score to fall. It will take months to repair it. Make your payments on time and start paying down your outstanding balances. It may take awhile but you can repair your credit score.
