When the City of Houston annexed the Heights in 1918, it did so with the provision that the Heights would remain dry. The Houston Heights is, without a doubt, a true historic neighborhood. The city council recently acted to encourage appropriate restoration and preservation in the Houston Heights by approving the recommendation of the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission to establish the Historic District West.
