Reverse Osmosis Water Desalination

    View:
A water softener system is an appliance particularly designed to eliminate minerals from the water by method of an ion-exchange procedure and these are the Microprocessor-based, the Electro-mechanical, Timer and the twin tank water softener.

Many of the water coming from the tap that large numbers of people are using are hard water and though they might be excellent for few things, simultaneously they are not for few too. That is why it is very essential to install the water softener system in your house in order to have access to soft and clean water and the hard water.

A water softener system is an appliance particularly designed to eliminate minerals from the water by method of an ion-exchange procedure. As the water flows via a bed of the sodium saturated resin beads, the mineral ions are taken out from the liquid to the beads, and the sodium ions are included in the water. Thus, the water softener system revives the beads with the potassium chloride solution or with brine. Few of the water softener systems have detached tanks for the brine and the sodium resin where as others consists includes the resin tank within the brine tank.

There are various kinds of water softener systems available in the market, which you can apply in your houses. Few of the most famous and common kinds of water softener systems include the timer, the metered, and the twin tank. The various kinds of water softener systems are discussed below:

The Microprocessor-based

One of the most familiar and the first kind of water softener systems is called as the microprocessor-based water softener system. This water softener is a metered system, which measure the actual amount of water you consume per day by a turbine, which turns as liquid is consumed. The rate at which the turbine spins is identified through a sensor that passes a signal to the computer. Nevertheless, according to the variables, which you set, the PC will find out if the water softener systems require to be reinforced or restart.

If the systems do require regeneration, in that case the PC will begin the process instantaneously and automatically.

The Electro-mechanical

Another kind of water softener systems is known as the electro-mechanical water softener system. These water softeners also have metered systems like the microprocessor-based water softener systems. The electro mechanical system measures the water consumption with the help of a turbine. Through this devise, the turbine is attached with a mechanical water-measuring device.

When the required capacity is achieved, the motor is activated and the electro mechanical water softener systems are restart. The electro mechanical softener metered systems would not ravage as much water and salt as the other softener systems use as the restart is based on the water consumption.

Timer

These are the kind of water softener systems, which functions with a timer. Not like the metered softener systems, the timer systems are restarted on a particular set date despite the quantity of water you consume. Nevertheless, you have to decide any one-day of week, which you would like the system to be restart. This water softener system comparatively to other water softener systems is less pricey.

The timer softener systems as well use much salt as they regenerate regardless of the quantity of water you consume.

Twin Tank

Twin tank is another type of water softener system, which consists of two tanks where one is crammed with resin and other with salt. The twin tank water softener systems every time has one tank, which has been regenerated earlier where as the other one is still in use.

The design of the twin tank is basically two water softener systems in one. Hence, it is more expensive than the all other types of softener systems, but they usually last longer than any other water softener design.
Reverse Osmosis Water Desalination
In the past, when draught has reared its parched head, people turned to a multitude of things ? water rationing, trading front lawns for yards full of quartz, even infrequent flushing. Thankfully, there is a highly effective and more practical answer to the world water crisis, in the form of water desalination.

San Leandro based Energy Recovery Inc. (ERI), founded in 1992, has developed a method to make water desalination simpler and far more affordable ? in some cases, less than $2 for every 1,000 gallons. They use a method called reverse osmosis desalination coupled with their patented Pressure Exchanger energy recovery device. The device shoots a highly pressurized stream of water through a membrane which separates the salt from the fresh water. Then, the energy from the concentrated runoff water is actually recovered and used to process more fresh water before it is returned to the sea at the end of the cycle.

Thermal water desalination ? via evaporation, has been used extensively in the middle east since the 40's. The U.S. and other parts of the world have been slower to adapt to this method of finding fresh water because it has long been expensive and criticized as wasteful.

A most recent and celebrated example of ERI's efficient technology in action is at the Perth Saltwater Reverse Osmosis Plant in Australia.

The plant supplies 17-percent of the city's water needs per day, is 97-percent efficient and has cut energy costs in half.

ERI's Pressure Exchanger technology is allowing for the spread of more affordable and less wasteful water desalination. The San Leandro company operates globally and establishes itself in parts of the world with a growing need for sensible water conservation ? for example Algeria, Dubai, and Spain.

Despite the worldwide implementation of the device ? which is fabricated from ceramic and has only one moving part ? ERI has kept all of its assembly, research and development in San Leandro, according to ERI's Chief Technology Officer Richard Stover.

"Everything is assembled here," says Stover.

Stover also stated that sea water reverse osmosis desalination with ERI's technology or the similar technology of their competitors, has found its way into more Middle Eastern markets that traditionally use thermal desalination.

In order to ensure maximum efficiency of the Pressure Exchanger, ERI exhausts a multitude of tests on each product before placing it in the field, according to the company's Vice President of Manufacturing, Terry Sandlin.

"We can't send something half a world away and have it malfunction," says Sandlin.
