Murcia City, Spain (one of the most enigmatic Cities anywhere!) is a County of many faces and has a fantastic mix of baroque architecture, modern shops and enough variety of places to stay, restaurants and night clubs to suit just about anyone! Booking a room is perhaps quite a bit easier than in many large places and good value can be got. Whatever your disposition (the odd night I just need a quiet meal, other times I'm ready to enjoy a concert followed by some late night dancing) Murcia can provide your fancy..



The Casino (built in 1847), in Traper'a, possesses a gorgeous Arab patio, an ornate ballroom and lots of other fantastically laid out halls and rooms with beautiful ornate plaster work. Actually it's more of a luxury Gentlemen's Retreat than what you'd normally think of as a casino today but go there if you can, it's absolutely Amazing!

The Cathedral is the showpiece of the Town in truth. It was built from the 14th to the 18th centuries and really epitomises the variety of building styles of those centuries. There are four special features of this cathedral of fascination to the enthusiast: The Baroque face of the ?Puerta del Perd'n?; The Renaissance ?Junterones? chapel; The cathedral tower is 96 metres tall and contains 25 bells: Also you mustn't forget the Diocesan Museum.

Other architecturally interesting points of interest not to be missed are the City Hall (Ayuntamiento) and the Teatro Romea, some of whose ornate frontages come from the 14th century. You must also check out the area's fantastic artistic roots in plenty of exhibition halls, museums and art galleries that make up an important part of the county's lively civilised life: Salzillo Museum (what a fantastic artist this man was!); The Ram'n Gaya Museum (dedicated to this local artist in 1990, he was 82 then; The Archaeological Museum; The Museum of Fine Arts; The Bullfighting Museum (some exhibits for the strong stomach...).. There are many more works from other artists as well. Ram'n was strongly influenced by Rembrandt - to give you a glimpse of the style..; The Palacio Almud? Art Centre; and so the list goes on.. If culture and architecture are your interest then a really good holiday awaits you in Murcia County.

Another curious feature here to remind us of Murcia's business history is that some of the roads are called after the stock that were traded along them, for example Traperia (cloth), Plateria (silver).

Establishments in Murcia cover the whole range of standards to suit all people from a little bed and breakfast hotel to 5 Star opulence and restaurants litter the lots of little squares to suit all wallets and tastes. If you just fancy a good old drink there are plenty of cool and some not so nice bars to have some drinks in.

Shopping is a particular joy for my Wife more than me. (I'm not alone here I bet..) She who must be obeyed has told me that there's no need to go out of town to buy clothes so that tells me the shopping experience in Murcia must be pretty impressive!! No, seriously, there are plenty of up to date shops and you can buy anything you need here. There are some really cool trendy shops and the staff here are friendly although in some it helps if you could converse in Spanish.. Overall, Murcia County is a lovely place to live near or visit which is what I do..
