Signs And Symptoms Of Yeast Infection

    View:
One of the most common types of disease affecting women today is vaginal yeast infection, also known as Candidiasis. This infection is caused by yeast-like fungus called Candida Albicans. The fungus itself is found on human skin at normal levels. They usually thrive in dark and moist areas. They are considered beneficial because they help keep the natural balance of microorganisms in our body. The problem only occurs when the fungus grows out of proportion. Usually, the abnormal growth of the fungus is caused by the death of a certain bacteria that kills Candida Albicans. This will lead to the uncontrolled growth of the fungus, thus resulting in an infection.

It is very important to know how to identify the early symptoms of this disease so that medical treatment can be administered immediately. If left untreated, the infection may lead to permanent damage, or even death. Below are the things to look for in identifying vaginal yeast infections.

The most common sign of an infection is severe itching on the affected area. The itching is felt in the vagina and the surrounding area as well. The itching comes and goes but when it is felt, it can be so bad that it would be difficult for any woman to run or walk. Urinating will also be a painful experience for the patient.

It is important for the affected person to know where exactly she feels the pain when urinating. Does she feel it when the urine passes through the urinary tract or when it reaches the outside of the vagina? If she feels the pain outside, then she most likely has yeast infection. If she feels the pain when the urine passes through the urinary tract, then she has Urinary Tract Infection. This is really important because treatment for yeast infection and UTI are different.

Normally it is easy to get over such infections through some simple alterations in lifestyle. Please remember yeast thrives in moist and warm conditions especially where there is hardly any air circulation. So, underwear that does not absorb moisture or too tight trousers or pantyhose along with perspiration present a golden opportunity for yeast to grow and multiply beyond normal levels and the moment that threshold is breached we start feeling uncomfortable.

The vagina and surrounding area will also show a slight red color accompanied by soreness. This will make sexual intercourse a painful experience. Another key indicator of vaginal yeast infection is the presence of vaginal discharges. The discharge itself may have a distinct odor and would look like cottage cheese. Many doctors liken the odor to the smell of beer or bread. Its color will range from yellow to white and can even be clear sometimes.

It is very important to know all these symptoms so that the infection will be treated much sooner. This will save the affected woman from experiencing discomfort and pain. If left untreated, vaginal yeast infection can cause permanent damage to the reproductive system of the affected woman.
