South Africa may seem like a small mark on your map. It lacks the vast spaces of Canada, the majestic pyramids of Egypt, and the "boat population" of Hong Kong. The scenery also offers a variety so wide that it justifies a holiday all by itself. On the one extreme you will find majestic mountains with breathtaking waterfalls. At the other end of the line you will find harsh desert landscapes, where only the toughest plants and animals can attempt to survive. The rest is a selection of all possibilities in between,

including forests, valleys, green and rocky hills, huge rivers and simple streams, rocky half-desert landscapes, and snow-capped mountains in winter time.
