There are many ways to earn money on the internet. The most popular is by selling some product or other. The product can be your own or someone else's which you sell for a commission.
If you are thinking of starting a internet business. Chances are you do not have a product of your own. So let's get you started by selling other people's products. As we go on, I will be referring to various web sites. I cannot give their addresses in this document, but you can find them all by doing a simple search.
The first thing you will want to do is find a product to sell. For this I would recommend that you open an account with Click Bank. This is a good place to start and the service is free. Once your account has been confirmed. Do a bit of reading to get the basics.
Secondly, you will need to open an account with Google Adwords. This account you will use to advertise the product and also to do keyword research. More on this later. You will need a credit card to open the account and there may be a nominal setup fee. You cannot really go any further without an Adwords account, so don't let the cost throw you.
Once again, when your account is confirmed, do some reading to get to know the service. In brief this is how it works. You place an ad for the product you are selling and select the keywords that would attract customers to your ad. You would bid on the keywords your have chosen and it stands to reason that the more popular the keyword, the higher the bid.
Now let's find a product to sell. I recommend that for starters you find a product on a subject you know something about. Go to the market place in you ClickBank account and do a search on the subject of your choice. Have a look at the commissions paid as well as the conversion factors. I would not go for anything that pays less the $20. Make a list of about 5 possibilities.
Now we are going to do some research to find out if the product can be profitable. For this purpose we will be using the Adwords keyword tool. Enter the exact full name of the product you have chosen in the tools and let google find keywords.
Have a look at how many searches there are for your keyword or product. If there are less than 1000 searches per month, you may want to try another product. Now have a look at the competition and minimum estimated bid. The more the competition the higher the bid.
But keep in mind that someone entering the search phrase “how to knit gloves” wants to know how to knit gloves. It is then reasonable to assume that out of every 100 clicks on your ad at least one sale should be made. And working on a 100% profit. It means that if the minimum bit is suggested at .10c you will break even on that one sale. Any additional sales are all clear profit.
You may think at this point that this will not make much money. But think about it. 20 to 30 products marketed in the same way, each with a profit of $200.00 plus per month. Not bad for starters.
Enough said. From the keyword list as explained above. You need to find 5 or 6 keywords that describe the product you are selling. Ad these to your keyword list. Remember. The title of the product is the main keyword. You also do not need 1000's of keywords. A select few with low minimum bids will fit the bill perfectly.
Now for the ad. If "How to knit Gloves" for example is the product, then that would be my title. Simple. For the body of the ad, have a look at the competition ads for your keyword. Use the top ones and change them slightly so that your ad is the same but slightly different.
A word of warning. Playing the Adwords game can be can a very expensive exercise if you do not monitor your monthly spending against sales made. You also need to be able to monitor your ads and keywords, to find out which are working and which are wasting you money. If you do this. You could have a very pleasant experience when starting a internet business.
Starting A Business Selling
A lot of people have that dream too, but what's the best way to make it come true?
Chances are when you start on this journey, you'll end up joining some get-rich-quick schemes but you'll soon realize that only a select few make money this way, and unfortunately the odds are against you.
However, there are in fact many multi-millionaires being made online.
Most of them are selling their own products they've developed; but nearly all of them are also selling products as affiliates or network marketers.
What does that mean? Selling as an affiliate or network marketer means working as a commissioned salesperson, or making money selling other people's stuff!
While the product owner takes care of billing, customer service, refund requests, tech support and so forth, the affiliate or network marketer just recommends the product to others, and gets a hefty sales commission for doing so... which can often be as high as 50-75%, and sometimes even 100%, for digital downloadable products.
Why would a product owner offer such high commissions? They do it because 25-50% of your sales, and every other affiliate's sales, add up to a lot more than 100% of their own sales. In other words, they wouldn't be selling those products at all without you.
Why would anyone offer 100% commissions? Because they want to give you a good reason to promote their product (usually at a fairly low price point so they don't mind giving up the sales money) in exchange for building their list of opt-in subscribers. Everyone who pays you the 100% commission for the product also ends up signing up with the product owner to download it, so it's a win-win scenario.
Now here's the biggest question: how do you get people to buy products through your affiliate or network marketing link when it seems everybody online is promoting the same thing?
There are numerous ways to get the attention of a customer, which leads them to buy through you.
1. Pay per Click Direct-to-Merchant
Many people are making great money online by purchasing clicks from Google AdWords or other pay per click search engines, and sending that traffic directly to the product owner's sales page through their affiliate or metwork marketer link. This can be very profitable if done right. The main drawback is that only a couple of people can use the same domain name when promoting through AdWords, so rather than using your affiliate link as it is, you should create a redirect link. The other drawback is that the traffic you have purchased may be interested in other products you're promoting, but you don't have contact with those people once they've clicked through to the sales page, so that's a lost sales opportunity.
2. Pay per Click to a Landing Page
This method uses the same type of pay per click advertising, but sends people to your own landing page first. You can offer a review of the product or some other type of unique content, before offering the visitor your affiliate or network marketing link to click on if they like your review. Again, once the people click through to the sales page, you won't be able to contact them anymore.
3. Combination of Pay per Click and List-Building
This method is very similar to #2, sending people to your own landing page first. However, the idea is to have them opt in to your newsletter list before they get to see your review or the sales page. Once someone is on your list, you'll be able to send them related offers down the road. But be careful that your landing page is not just a "squeeze page" with an opt-in form and no content, which goes against Google's AdWords regulations.
4. Combination of SEO and List-Building
If you don't want to pay for traffic or worry about operating within Google's pay per click terms, you can go the natural search way and build traffic through SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization. This takes a different resource -- your time -- in order to properly optimize your page. You will also want to research how to do it the most effectively. However, many super affiliates and network marketers are to the point where all their traffic comes naturally from the search engines, and they get thousands of visitors a day.
To combine SEO with list building, you would once again offer an opt-in form to the visitor so that you can keep contact with them. Otherwise you're letting them leave as easily as they came, which is a waste of your SEO efforts.
As you can see, there are numerous ways to get traffic to your sites and build your affiliate or network marketing business. If you choose an option that involves opt-in list building, then you'll also have a growing list of subscribers who know, like and trust you, and will buy much of what you recommend.
Another way to stand out is to offer a bonus or rebate that nobody else offers. You'll make less on each transaction if it's a cash rebate, but not everyone will cash in on your offer, and you'll also have more sales overall.
With a little ingenuity and effort, you can be a super affiliate or network marketer in no time.
