First thing you must do is determine that your pool is really leaking water. There are three main causes of losing water from swimming pools. It can be because your swimming pool has plumbing leaks, shell leaks, or your water is evaporating or your guests are splashing the water right out of the pool.



Did you realize that evaporation can cause quite a bit of water to disappear from your swimming pool? This happens each day that your pool sits directly in the path of sunlight. You probably don't even realize that it is happening, but it is. Swimmers can also splash a lot of water out of your pool as well. Make sure to rule this one out before you start thinking you need a costly repair.

There is one, fool proof; sure way to find out if your loss of pool water is due to evaporation. You should take a large bucket and fill it with water. After you do that, take the bucket and place it on the first step of your pool. Begin adding or removing water in the bucket until the water level in the bucket is exactly the same with that of your pool. You should then leave the container on the step for no less than two days. You must remember, that during this process, no one is allowed to use the pool. When you come back to check the water levels, if they have both gone down the same amount, then you know that the water loss has occurred because of the sunlight. On the other hand, if the water in the pool has dropped much lower than the water in the bucket, you probably have a leak somewhere in your pool.

The first place you should look for a leak is around the filter and pool pump. Do you see any damp spots nearby? If you do, take a few minutes to trace back where the water is coming from, often you will find that it is coming from one of the pipes in the area. If you do, you should turn on your pump and watch to see if any leaks develop. If you see one, you know right were the repair needs to be made. This repair should be left to a CEM pool service and sales representative.

If you cannot spot any leaks in the plumbing, then your leak is most likely in the shell of the pool. If this is the case, you need to leave this type of work up to a well qualified professional. They are trained to find the source of shell leaks and fix them properly. As you can see, once you locate the source of water loss, fixing the problem is much easier.
