My advice to anyone planning a party for almost any occasion is to have a theme for the party. I have been to far too many parties over the years that seem disconnected and without a point. Just think about things like the occasion, the guests, the interests of the guests, and the time of the year that you are planning to have your party.

For example, if you are throwing a birthday party for your eight year old daughter, why not make it a "princess party" and have all of the food, activities, and party supplies surround the theme of princesses. Won't this be much easier than going on no theme at all?
