In addition to all of the other fine qualities of this seaside community, Carlsbad has a very unique attraction that draws thousands of visitors each year. Each spring, the foothills of Carlsbad are transformed into a rainbow of vibrant colors. The flower fields of Carlsbad California, play host to thousands of visitors from all over the world every year, during the peak blooming season of March and April and into the months following. This spectacular show of mother nature is unique to all of North America.



Carlsbad or "Village by the Sea," is 48 square miles of rolling hills with seven miles of absolutely beautiful coastline enjoyed by both residents and tourists who come here to play. Carlsbad is located on the coast of Southern California, 35 miles north of San Diego.It is easily accessible from either Los Angeles, located just to the north, or San Diego, just to the south and well worth a drive up or down the coast to see.

You can take yourself out of the ordinary and spend a few hours in one the flower fields with an easy diversion off of the famous San Diego Freeway, I-405. The kids can run about and explore and the adults can linger, and meander over the many acres of color in bloom on hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

For over sixty years, the rolling hills of Carlsbad transform into a spectacular display of natural color and beauty. At the famous Carlsbad Ranch, nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers are in a full bloom from early March through early May bringing the famous fields back to life announcing the arrival of springtime in Southern California. This annual burst of color has certainly become part of the Carlsbad local heritage.

Among the specialty flower attractions are also miniature roses and poinsettias. Within several large greenhouses, there are the world famous Ecke poinsettias. This is the area where these beautiful red and green Christmas flowers are grown and shipped out to all over the world. Today, the famous poinsettias come in a variety of colors and sizes.

The city is famous for many attractions, including world famous La Costa Resort and Spa, The Four Seasons Resort, Legoland, festivals and fiestas, fine dining and shopping, golfing, and, of course great surfing. But all of this is nothing compared to witnessing the beautiful rolling hills all in bloom beginning in March and April each year.
