Tips For Decorating A Room

    View:
When the time comes to decorate your child's room, you may find yourself in serious need of help. Decorating kid's rooms can be risky business, especially if you have a fussy child. With the right tools and tips, however, you may just have a great time decorating your kid's room and wind up with a special place for your child to hang out in.

One of the first things you'll want to do is pick a color. Try to pick a color that is somewhat neutral, as the tastes of your young ones will probably change week by week. Instead of using an overbearing color for the walls or for the theme, try to use something that has the ability to fade into the background and has the ability to bring out decorations. Delicate colors are best for this, so ask your child to pick from a small selection of light pinks, blues or even some delicate greens. You can experiment, of course, and come up with some cool color combinations that your kid will love.

Themes are popular when it comes to kid's rooms, so it's probably a great idea to try one out. As you have the neutral color base for the room, you'll also want to pick a theme that isn't too overbearing. You child could instantly change his or her mind about it, so you don't want to have invested hours and hours in installing some sort of elaborate theme when it may only last a few weeks. There are a few steps to picking and setting up a room theme that may help:

?Get inspiration ? you'll want to talk to your child or look at his or her interests in order to find out what a suitable theme inspiration could be. Check out books, magazines and decorating websites to get some ideas and talk to your child about them.

?Choose coordinating fabrics and accessories that match your base color. You should use fabric that brings out the highlights in the color without being too flashy.

?Pick a focal point ? one of the best ideas in showcases your kid's room is to pick a sort of centerpiece. This will help you design and will give your child a central point to concentrate on. The bed is probably the best idea, so you can decorate from that location outward.

?Choose bedding and other accessories ? you'll want to have bedding that highlights the room's qualities after it is decorated. Establishing a theme requires color schemes and lots of matching, so you'll want to pull out all the stops and pick a style and color of bedding that brings out the depths of color you have chosen.

?Leave space ? one of the key components to designing kid's rooms and decorating theme is to ensure that they have plenty of space to put items and to do a little bit of decorating themselves. Temporary space for posters and other trinkets can add to the personalized feel of the room and will definitely make your child happy.

Furniture is also important. Finding furniture that matches the color scheme of your kid's room can be complicated, but if you have picked a neutral color for the background, you should have no problem coordinating. Head down to your local department store or look around online for some quality furniture. Desks, chairs, bed accessories and other pieces of furniture can add a touch of something special to your kid's room.

Decorating your kid's room is all about including your child in the process, keeping it simple and ensuring that you have a foundation with which you can work. If you keep the process simple, you should be able to decorate and re-decorate your kid's room with ease.
Tips For Decorating A Room
Decorating a bedroom for guests enables gives you the opportunity to bring some great colour combinations together which make the room feel welcoming, chic and stylish. As it is your home the colours you choose can basically be anything which inspires you, however keeping the room looking stylish crisp, bright colours are probably the best option.

For women who live in a predominantly male household, for example a mum, her husband/partner and children which are all boys, homes can end up being decorated in colours and styles which are typically associated with males! In a guest room you have the opportunity to bring colours and styles which are stereotypically associated with females, such as pinks, flowers and feminine touches.

Be inspired to make this room really special, have fun selecting bedding and window treatments which are chic, stylish and yet practical. Guests may not like your choices, but they are unlikely to actually voice an opinion!

A guest room should also be completely clutter free. A mistake made by many households is to use a guest room as a dumping ground for all manner of things, such as laundry, unused furniture etc. Whilst you may be short of storage place, subjecting your guests to a jumble and mess is not very inviting!

Use pale colours which offer a crisp, clean look as well as the illusion of more space. Keep the bed freshly made with beautiful duvet covers, add personal touches such as scatter or boudoir cushions or the latest bedroom trends of a neatly placed comforter across the end or half way up the bed. Always ensure guests have a comfortable easy chair available, as this will make them feel really at home.

This is where you can use surplus furniture, however you should recover the chair to suit the décor of the room. Add cushions which coordinate with the bedding or window treatments as this will bring a sense of harmony and cohesion to the room and make it look 'fit for purpose' and dispel the junk room look.

You should also remember to keep a guest room cleaned and well aired so that any unexpected guests can be welcomed without any fuss or hassle. Try adopting the continental approach of airing the duvet and pillows by draping them out of an open window on a warm and sunny day. This will not only help to keep them smelling fresh, it will also enable the bed to be aired properly which in turn will prevent musty smells. Likewise open the windows of your guest room as often as possible, to keep the room fresh and help reduce potential problems of damp, particularly if you live in an older style house.

Consider the window treatments carefully, although you want to achieve a light and airy feeling to the room you also need to bear in mind that the curtains are sufficiently thick to stop unwanted light entering the room at night. You could use a combination of a roller blind which has a blackout lining and curtains or select curtains which have a blackout lining.
