Love Your Eyes Lyrics
Sharon Bell
A lot of people think that their eyes are safe during the cold winter months. But the fact is you need as much protection for your eyes in winter as during summer. For one, the harmful effects of the sun's rays do not lessen during wintertime; so you need to safeguard your eyes from ultraviolet light. Do not let the usual hazy and gray days of winter get you into thinking that it is safe to go outside. Here are some tips on how you can best protect your eyes during the coldest season of the year.
Use Sunglasses
Sunglasses are handy not only during summer but also during winter. Studies have shown that the snow covering the ground can bounce off the same amount of ultraviolet lights as the sands at the beach or the glitters off the sea during summer. Extensive amounts of ultraviolet rays can slowly but surely cause sunburn in your eyes and eventually result to eye problems like cataracts. By wearing quality sunglasses during winter, you provide your eyes with a filtering system that can drastically reduce your eyes' exposure to the sun.
Use Ski Goggles
Winter is the time for a number of extreme sports like snowboarding and ski jumping. Performing these activities requires you to start your slide from high elevation, these sports also allow you to soar high into the air. But did you know that ultraviolet light from the sun becomes more intense as you increase altitude? As you go higher with your skis, the air becomes thinner, which makes it easier for the sun's rays to penetrate your eyes. Add the sunlight that shines back at you from the snow, and you have the perfect recipe for blindness.
Wearing ski goggles can protect your eyes from harmful sunlight. Always choose goggles that are made from polycarbonate lenses which can properly block out harsh ultraviolet rays. Ski goggles can also shield your eyes from threats posed by your ski poles and protruding twigs among others.
Increase Humidity In Your Place
You do not need to know why you have tear ducts in your eyes. But your eyes sure become a little uncomfortable whenever they dry out. Moisture is essential for your eyes; otherwise, you may suffer problems with your eyesight. However, all the heating systems in your home and workplace can surely reduce the humidity in the air. Prevent dryness in your eyes by using portable humidifiers anywhere in your home and in your office. You can also try artificial eye moisturizers available in eye clinics.
Use Proper Winter Attire
Hooded jackets or coats are not just for a show during winter. These clothing are actually good protection for your eyes come wintertime. Jackets and coats can block the cold wind from getting to your eyes, hence, much needed moisture will not evaporate easily.
Minimize Outdoor Exposure
If you want to protect your eyes, and skin for that matter, from the harshness of the sun, nothing beats staying indoors. But it is just impossible and totally ridiculous of you not to get out during winter. What you can do is to limit or minimize your outdoor exposure during winter, especially if you do not have the necessary eye protectors; this way, you preserve the health of your eyes without totally depriving yourself of the finer things of winter.
Countless eye injuries and complications can happen to you during winter; when these happen, always consult with your doctor. By the way, the cold months should not give you any excuse to neglect the appearance of your eyes. Never slacken your drive to eliminate those eye bags and dark under-eye circles even if there is a snowstorm. Products like Eyederma can improve your eye's appearance even in winter.
