Now you have realised it's time to lose weight. Most women do when they start to see that things have got out hand at some point of their lives and we all dream of wearing those sexy outfits that used to drive our lovers wild. We yearn for the day when we can once again walk out in the street and we are the ones that others are admiring from a far as you walk down the street with new found confidence.
A good starting point is to aim to lose 10 pounds when starting a weight loss program. For most people this should be an attainable goal within just a few weeks which if you need to lose more weight will motivate you to carry on. To be fair to yourself and your body don't try a crash diet trying to lose 10 pounds in 2 or 3 days it will just make you feel ill.
So you are probably thinking of getting started? Almost without exception people when deciding to lose weight have visions of eating like a rabbit for days and then exercising like a marine recruit afterwards at the gym. But this is not how it has to be.
If you're looking to lose 10 pounds while still having fun and getting some fresh air, look instead to what was probably one of your favorite childhood activities: bicycling.
One of the biggest benefits of bicyling (bike riding) is often overlooked is that a bike is one of the few items of exercise equipment that can also be a way of getting around. This is significant as one of the biggest reasons people fail to lose weight is they can't fit their exercise regimen in to their daily lives.
Lets imagine for example you decided you would lose 10 pounds by signing up and going to the gym every day. This is of course a brilliant idea in theory at least but this is what usually happens. One day your running late from work so you just skip the gym (just this once) then another day it's raining and you forgot your umbrella so it seem silly to get wet going to the gym (just this once).. You get the idea?
In a few weeks you find going to the gym is just impossible to schedule with all your other commitments so you decide it's not really worth all the bother.
Now lets imagine instead of joining a gym to lose 10 pounds you have either got your old bike out of the basement or invested in a nice shiny new one you decide to bike to work. While it may take a little longer to lose the weight, by biking to work you're really losing weight using no extra time at all.
If you live near to your work it will probaby be quicker than travelling by car and save on gas.So this means you going to lose 10 pounds with no need to schedule the time in to your routine for gym trips and no need to feel the pain of paying to lose weight either.
When you engage in most other forms of exercise, you're engaging in it exclusively: you're not getting anything else done when you're at the gym. With biking, on the other hand, the exercise is almost a secondary bonus to the primary function of getting somewhere you need to go. Add to this the fact that you're saving money on transportation and doing good for the environment, it's hard to argue against biking as one of the best forms of exercise.
Just by biking to and back from work each day you will lose 10 pounds pretty quickly and it won't interupt your schedule that much. If it is to far to ride a bike to work consider it for doing errands such as going to the store when not working. If you really want to lose 10 pounds pretty quickly try bike riding for fun as well at weekends . A few miles a day will work wonders.
