The Garden of the Gods is a 1300 acre rock garden run by the city which has become a very popular attraction in Colorado Springs. It is made up of giant red sandstone sculptures that have been formed over time by the forces of wind and rain. The park is home to a great diversity of wildlife. For example, you will see twisted junipers, many of which are over 1000 years old and a unique species of ant called the honey ant. When you arrive at the park you will find a number of different trails to hike and explore. Trails are fairly easy to navigate and they do allow dogs on a leash. Some of the trails allow horse back riding and mountain biking so stay aware as you hike. If hiking is not your thing you can take a bus tour of the park for a small fee. You can also take a short 45 minute guided tour of the park during the summer or watch a short movie about how the rock formations got there.
