Garden Of The Gods
James Carl
If you have ever been to Colorado Springs you know that the area is home to many incredible outdoor attractions. If you love the outdoors there is no better place to be than Colorado Springs and one of the most popular attractions is a place called the Garden of the Gods. Its a unique area that is worth a visit if you will be in Colorado Springs. But what makes this area so great? Read on and find out.
The Garden of the Gods is a 1300 acre rock garden run by the city which has become a very popular attraction in Colorado Springs. It is made up of giant red sandstone sculptures that have been formed over time by the forces of wind and rain. The park is home to a great diversity of wildlife. For example, you will see twisted junipers, many of which are over 1000 years old and a unique species of ant called the honey ant. When you arrive at the park you will find a number of different trails to hike and explore. Trails are fairly easy to navigate and they do allow dogs on a leash. Some of the trails allow horse back riding and mountain biking so stay aware as you hike. If hiking is not your thing you can take a bus tour of the park for a small fee. You can also take a short 45 minute guided tour of the park during the summer or watch a short movie about how the rock formations got there. There is something for everyone at the Garden of the Gods and I am sure you will love it if you decide to visit it while in Colorado Springs.
You can find the park at 1805 N. 30th St in Colorado Springs. Before visiting the park you should first call the information line at 719-634-6666 to learn about current hours and special events. The park is open daily from 5AM but closing time will vary depending on the time of the year. Admission is free making it a cheap yet very fun attraction to visit in Colorado Springs.
