Infertility In Men Causes
Dean Caporella
Men can be responsible for up to 50% of cases; about 30% directly and 20% indirectly. These figures may shock many people but infertility in men is a real issue and there are several factors which can lead to a man being infertile.
Varicocele
Varicocele is regarded as the most common cause. It's a group of enlarged and dilated veins, much like varicose veins however, it occurs in the spermatic chord in the scrotum. Varicocele is the prevention of effective blood flow from testicles which in turn causes swelling in the veins warming the testicles.
It reportedly affects almost one in two men with fertility issues. Signs include a dull aching sensation in the testes region while a feeling of heaviness in that region can also be a sign that all may not be right.
Other Causes Of Male Infertility
The first course of action for men who suspect they may be experiencing fertility issues is to see their doctor. A semen analysis is performed in fact, two will usually be required before any diagnosis can be made.
While varicocele is the main culprit in infertility for men, other factors need to be considered. Smoking, drug abuse, exercise, stress and bad nutrition can all play their part.
Smoking has been proven in recent research to lower a man's sperm count and motility. If you smoke and are having issues with conception then consider this as a possible cause.
Drug abuse can play a major role over time while some forms of medications such as antibiotics may increase the chances of male infertility.
Exercise
Yes, in most cases exercise is good for you but for men struggling with fertility issues, excessive exercise can play a major role in heating the area of the scrotum which can lead to a low quality sperm count. Excessive exercise also cause stress on the body and jumping into a sauna or spa following a workout will only increase the heat issue.
Nutrition should be a strong consideration. High intake of vitamin C is considered helpful however, a more sensible approach would be to look for a more balanced intake of antioxidants and vitamins.
Stress levels other than those caused by over-exercising should never be discounted. If you're experiencing some form of stress in your life then consider it could be having a major effect.
The issue of infertility in men can be a combination of factors and most of the ones mentioned above can be rectified over time.
