Typically, a custom tuned car would involve having awesome rims, an after market body kit such as wide body fenders, bumpers, front lip skirts, wrap around skirts, and spoilers for street tuners or wings as they call it on race cars. Body kits function as an aerodynamic modification to the factory ride. Going at a 180 mile per hour speed is not what these compact cars are made to do. Being fast means engulfing air and that means a lot of air. A stock car installed with a modified engine going at an extremely fast speed would eventually flip the car.

It is called the spoiler because it breaks apart the coarse air that hits the SUV, truck or car. This air creates drag and can cause a loss in performance and horsepower. Aside from its form, another use for the spoiler or the wing is the redirection of the air hitting the car. An effective spoiler redirects the air parallel to the front of the car. It then creates an over pressure on the top part and an under pressure on the bottom part, thus creating a down force and giving off an effective tire to road traction. Good road traction can translate to better steering response and good car handling.

If you are buying a rear wheel drive car that possesses a high powered engine, do consider installing rear spoilers so it can have a better tire to road traction. Choosing an after market spoiler should be done with a lot of research since this could make or break the ride's performance. You wouldn't want to be wasting a lot of money. Buy a spoiler that is designed to a specific brand and model so as to be assured of the design integration between the stock car's aerodynamics and the upgrade that you wish to add on. Keep in mind to buy brands that provide a template for drilling holes unto your car so that it should be in perfect snug fit. We don't want parts to be flying off when we're cruising at high speeds. If you decide to install spoilers for general models, make sure that the spoiler will coincide with the car's design because this might cause more drag and lessen the engine's efficiency.
