A common item that you might have in the kitchen to get rid of small flames on the stove is baking soda. Ordinary salt may be employed, but baking soda works better. It could take two or three handfuls of both to extinguish a tiny fire, but this is significantly less messy than using a fire extinguisher to get this done. You should use a fire extinguishing method that is proportional to the strength of the flames to steer clear of having a huge eyesore.

If an oven cleans itself and locks the door, do NEVER attempt to force the door back open. It will be extremely hot within an oven, even hotter than it allows you to heat things within it, and that degree of heat is very hazardous. When the stove is cleaning its interior, leave it alone. You should have an oven clean itself only while there are no small children in the house that are likely to play around the stove. If you have to have children in the house at the time, block off the kitchen so they cannot get in it, since as previously established, the stove is going to be extremely hot and if you are like the rest of us, the trouble that comes from mixing kids and stoves in the same room is grief you do not need.

All things that are labeled as being extremely flammable need to be stored outside in a separate building. In case there is not a different building in your yard, you need to make an area to store them that is nowhere near your home.

Do not wipe anything in the home with gas or turpentine. The vapors put off by chemicals will settle to the floor and any spark from an electric appliance may set them off. If you have to end up doing this for some reason, please do it outside and away from the house where it will be safe to do so.

Store combustible chemicals away from the furnace and other devices that get hot. This includes electric heaters that you use in the winter to keep buildings warm. If it is gas, try to store it in an approved container instead of in things like milk jugs. Approved containers for gasoline exist for a good reason; please use them. When you are able to avoid it, do not put these upon carpet and never use these to warm clothes.

Your smoke detector's batteries should be inspected and replaced often to be certain they will work if you want them to. Your smoke detector cannot help save you if its batteries are not charged up and the smoke alarm is not working properly.
