1. The internet is anonymous - I'm sure you are already aware of this fact, but it's something you need to keep in mind before you go to a site or buy something on the internet. Just because a site claims to be the 'best DVD seller' in the world doesn't make it true. Creators of a website site can say or write whatever they want. Your only protection against the anonymous people on the other end is to find out more about them. Quality reviews can provide that information and save you from making a big mistake.

2. Weed out bad companies - So, let's say you find out about the site and it is legitimate. Let's say the company actually exists and sells products online to people like you. But, what if the company has terrible service? They take forever to ship items out or they substitute items when the one you want is not in stock. Here is another example of where a quality review can help. You can find out about those companies with poor service and you can choose not to do business with them.

3. Weed out bad products - In this case, the company has good customer service, but the products sold are substandard. A good example of this case would be Microsoft. They are a trusted company who will provide the product you purchase. However, some of their products are not so good. For example, Internet Explorer has always been a sub par product compared to Firefox and Opera (which are free). If you read quality reviews, you will learn these things and have fewer headaches in the long run.

4. Avoid fake websites that may contain malicious code - This reason is different than what is discussed in number 1 above. Instead of dealing with an anonymous person making claims that aren't true, in this case you would be going to a website that will try to install something malicious on your machine. Believe it or not, there are plenty of awful people out there who get joy from making our lives miserable. In this case, there probably won't be any reviews. However, a search on the site name will probably give you results that warn you about malicious content.

5. Find the best value - And finally, quality reviews can help you get the best product for your dollar. Maybe you are planning to buy a certain brand of MP3 player, such as an Ipod. But then, you read reviews of competitor products and realize another company makes a similar product, with similar quality, for half the price. Unless you really 'must' have that Ipod, I think it's an easy choice to make.
