How To Tie A Windsor Knot
Ken Wilson
The Windsor knot, also known as the full Windsor knot, is a thick, triangular shaped, wide knot that many people wear. It projects a certain type of confidence which is why it is the best choice for those who do not know how to tie a tie. It should also be your know of choice for job interviews, presentations, courtroom appearances, conferences or other work-related events. A Windsor knot is best suited for the spread type collar shirts which are rather common as well.
While the Windsor knot can prove most convenient to those who do not know how to tie a tie, just about anyone who needs to wear a tie can use this type of knot. However, it looks best on men who have longer neck. This is because its wide form creates an illusion of shortness, so that the perceived height of the neck is shortened a little bit. On the other hand, if you are short-necked, there are other ways how to tie a tie that you can learn more about. However, since a Windsor knot is basic in tie knots, learning how to do it will not be such a bad idea as well. If you do not mind that shortened neck illusion, you can even conveniently wear them to work everyday.
The Windsor knot is fairly simple to do. All you need to do is stand in front of a mirror where your upper torso is viewable. Take the wide end of the tie over the narrow end, with the former extended for about a feet below the latter. Bring the wide end up through the loop in between the collar and the tie and then pull it back down. Cross the wide over the narrow end again and bring it up through a similar loop, next to the first one you made. Now, take the wide end under the narrow end from the left, make a loop to the right then pass up through the loop. Complete your knot by slipping down the wide end through the knot in front. After you do this, you can then tighten the knot with both hands and draw it up to your collar.
Knowing how to tie a tie in a special kind of knot is quite simple, especially if you have the information online. Many find it enjoyable as well. Since it is usually used for formal occasions and career-related events, mastering the Windsor knot will surely make your professional and social life a lot easier. Go on and try to make on one yourself!
