Unfortunately, the technique that most people use for weight loss also happens to be the least effective, and extremely dangerous. This is the technique of simply depriving yourself of food, eating little or nothing each day. But while you might think this would be a sure path to weight loss, in truth, the body will fight this method. As your body feels it is about to starve, it will not burn fat first, but muscle tissue. Before that point ever comes, almost everyone goes back to their normal eating patterns, at which point the body turns these calories into even more fat.
Although during starvation, the body will eventually burn fat, it's not until much later. Very few people's bodies can make it to that stage before they have to start eating more, and when they do, the body stores more food as fat than ever before. It does this as a precautionary measure, in case it has to endure future starvation.
The result of this vicious cycle is that most people tend to blame themselves. They wonder what's wrong with them that they cannot lose weight. In truth, though, it's not their fault; it's simple body chemistry that keeps them from losing those extra pounds.
When the starvation method doesn't work, a lot of people turn to something equally dangerous: gastric bypass surgery. Please remember, surgery is a drastic step. You should never use this method to lose weight unless a doctor advises that there is no other option for you, because as with any surgery, there is always the risk of complications. Plus the financial cost can be huge.
What you should look for is a calorie burning diet plan. If you are like most people, your obesity is caused by the combination of a low metabolism, too much food intake, and not enough calories being burned. A calorie burning diet will stimulate your metabolism through careful selection of foods, maintain your calorie intake at just below what you expend; and will not cause the damage and rebound weight gain that starvation dieting does.
There are any number of good diet programs on the market that will help you burn calories and stimulate your metabolism. You should consider it a priority to find one today, as your health is at stake. Not to mention a healthier sense of self esteem.
Every day you wait increases your chance for health problems later in life, so don't put it off any longer. A healthier you is just around the corner; all it takes is effort and a good plan for weight loss success to be yours!
