How To Be A Video Game Tester
Sean Saunders
Being a video game tester isn't hard, but then again it isn't easy either. Some people think that all a professional game tester does is sit on his butt and play video games all day long. That would be a nice way to collect a paycheck, but that is not what the job description entails. Others think that game testers are people with no lives that sit in a rubber room and don't do anything but play games and get told what to do, with very little pay or benefits. This is also untrue, otherwise there wouldn't be many game testers.
Video game testers, like any other professional, are paid to complete the tasks that are set for them by their employer. Paid to complete a task; that is the basic definition of "job", which is precisely what professional game testing is; a job. It just so happens that these tasks are "playing video games," which is why most people think game testing is some sort of fantasy career that requires no real work ethic. Hence, the reason behind every male between 12-28 wanting to be a paid video game tester.
Is paid video game testing a fantasy job? Well, yes...sort of. After all, testers are literally getting paid to play the newest and coolest games before anyone else gets to. So, in a sense, it really is the perfect job for anyone whom likes playing video games. But as mentioned, that does not mean there isn't any work involved.
A lot of the video game testing process involves paper work, like filling out bug and glitch reports. Don't just shrug it off and say "paper work?! Heh, Thats Nothing." Truth be told, it is more than nothing; in fact, it's everything. The developers and programmers rely on your reports and writings to find and repair bugs and glitches within the game. Without detailed reports they won't be able to find and fix the problems. This means deadlines won't be met, the company could lose out on millions, and many employees could lose their jobs. As you can see, the whole process is basically a long chain, with you (the video game tester) holding that chain together. (If you want to find out what a professional video game tester gets paid for this "important work", you can find out by clicking here.)
So, even though the work isn't really back breaking, it's still a vital part of a games ultimate success. Therefore, you should treat this career as you would any other; with professionalism.
It may not be easy, it may not be hard, but one thing is for certain, being a video game tester is loads of FUN. Being able to play video games and get paid for it is every guy's wildest dream, and since your reading this, it's obviously your dream too.
To make this dream a reality, start doing more research and even invest in a few video game tester E-courses, if you have the money that is. After all, what better way to get a game testing job than by learning from those who already have one?
