Parents Concern Over The Usage Of Teen Lingo
Mike Batta
If you are parent of a teen, then the usage of three letter acronyms such as PAW, CD9 might be very troubling compared to that old four letter words. Well, these all acronyms are the part of teen lingo. You can call it an influence or a sign of changing times. Teen lingo is all about using acronyms and slang to keep the outsider away from the conversation.
Most of the teenagers make use of teen lingo to keep their parents in the dark. This is the reason that parents are generally not comfortable with the usage of teen lingo where PAW means parents are watching and CD9 is to say parents are around.
Though teen lingo offers too much secrecy to youngsters, parents who are internet -savvy are also in constant search of looking for the ways to decode this coding teen lingo.
Parents are perplexed on noticing lingo used by their children via monitoring software or looking over their childrens shoulder. They are taking the help of the sites that provide them with the meaning of these acronyms and slang used in teen lingo. Obviously, parents have all praises for these sites while these sites receive hatred from teenagers.
The problem does not end here. No doubt that teen trends change rapidly and it may be bit tough for parents to keep pace with these ever changing fads of teenagers. Even parents who are using monitoring software to keep watch over their childrens activities online are not able to understand the language used by the children online. But it is important for parents short codes that are being used by their children to ensure their safety online. The purpose is not to spy on your children but the objective here is to remain alert about the usage of certain terms because some of the words used as teen lingo carry wrong meaning. Some of the example of these kind of acronyms used in teen lingo are;
NIFOC: Nude in front of Computer
RU/18: Are you over 18?
LHOS: Lets have online sex
RUUP4IT: Are you up for it?
WYCM: Will you call me?
KFY: Kiss for you
SMIM: Send me an instant message
WUF: Where are you from?
IWSN: I want sex now
ADR: Address
It is not that all acronyms carry wrong meanings there are several other acronyms and slang with a good meaning and even they are cute. Some of these are kind of harmless and cute acronyms are:
4EAE: forever and ever
AIMP: Always in my prayer
ROTFLOL: Rolling on the floor laughing out loud
AYTMTB: and youre telling me this because
BTDTGTS: been there, done that, got the t-shirt
