The problem is when these diet or weight loss programs advertise losing a large amount of weight in a short period of time, they are not talking about losing body fat; they are talking about water weight. They know that most people assume that when they lose weight they are burning fat so they roll with that which is really misleading information.
So in reality, they are not really lying to you but they are only actually telling you half the truth by capitalizing on what most people assume. They will not tell you the truth that you are not losing much fat because they know that you think you are because your bathroom scale goes down.
Let's just clear that up as the first thing you must understand is that fat loss and weight loss is not the same thing. Just because you lose weight does not mean you lose fat. And it is quite possible to lose fat but not lose weight. When most people talk about losing weight, what the really want to do is lose body fat and obtain a more attractive, slim and firm body.
The old fashioned way to do this was to reduce calories and go on a restricted diet. The reason why 95% of all diets failed was because they work against your body not with it. If the calorie level was even a 100 too low for your body it would automatically go into famine mode slowing the metabolism (the rate the body burns fuel) to conserve fuel.
This essentially shuts down fat burning and at some point an increased appetite triggered by the metabolic slowdown forced one to abandon the diet and start eating. And this can mean everything in sight causing more body fat to be piled on totally defeating the purpose of the diet.
In order for fat loss to occur, your body must burn more calories that it takes in, but keep in mind that your body needs fuel for energy and when you exercise vigorously your body needs even more calories. If you try and exercise while not eating enough calories you will make the situation even worse causing your body to find protein and carbohydrates from its own stores (muscle tissue) which will cause a quick metabolic slow down halting any fat loss.
The new way to lose fat makes good sense. Strength training exercise must be at the core of any fat loss program boosting metabolism up to 10% after each training session. This new way focus's on increasing the metabolic rate to be burning more fuel all day every day 24/7 as opposed to just burning calories during the exercise session as we used to do.
The lean muscle that strength training helps you build will firm and tone your body like nothing else out there. No other activity or type of exercise will do this so strength training must be a part of your fat-loss workout routine.
To lose weight (burn fat) properly you must increase your metabolism and your need for oxygen with interval training exercise. To support the exercise program you need to eat enough calories each day with 4-6 small meals spaced throughout the day to give you energy and further speed up the metabolism.
For this method to work it is important to seek the help of a fitness professional to set up your program and teach you correct exercise technique. Your program needs to be performed at the right level of intensity and changed often to continue to get results.
