Volunteer For Charity Work
Mike Selvon
There are many organizations that rely on people to volunteer their time in order for their organization to help others. Your time is your most valuable asset and it is always appreciated. If you have always wondered about donating your time and money to charity work, this article is for you.
We will cover some of the basics of charity work and what you can expect to get back. It is a worthwhile endeavor that will leave you feeling good about yourself and the time that you invested in others is well rewarded.
What is charity work?
Charity work is exactly as it sounds. It is when you work with a charity. It can be a non-profit organization or one that specializes in a certain field. Some people donate their time and do not receive any compensation while there are others that do get paid for their work.
Most often when you hear the term "charity work" it is referring to people that are donating their time or their money to a certain charity to help those that need some help. There are some great examples of charities that do a tremendous amount of good in the world.
Is charity work tax deductible?
Charity work itself is not tax deductible. That is time that you are volunteering. However, any money or donations you make is tax deductible. If you take clothing to Goodwill or the Salvation Army you can get a receipt for the value of your clothes and then deduct that amount off your taxes.
Do you have a vehicle that is going unused? Take it to a charity that accepts automobiles and you can receive a huge tax deduction come tax season. The whole purpose of doing it should not be what you get back but rather what you give. If you are doing it for any other purpose you may not have the best intentions.
Who are some prominent people that do charity work?
Two very famous people that donate huge amounts of money and their time are Bill and Melinda Gates. As you might have heard recently, Bill Gates stepped down from Microsoft so that he could spend more time on their charity organization the Gates Foundation. Many affluent people spend their money and time doing good work for charity groups.
Elton John is a continuous supporter for AIDS research. There is an entire website devoted to charity organizations that prominent members of society, acting and recording contribute too. You can visit "Look To The Stars" to see a list of all the charity work that celebrities and influential people donate their money and time too.
How do charities get their money?
Charities get their money from a couple of different sources. One of the primary sources is through donations made from followers who truly believe in the work that the charity does. They may raise money by selling bracelets, having bake sales or having celebrity auctions.
A second way for charities to receive money is through applying for grants. Grants are government funds used for research and to help organizations out. The charities must apply for a grant in order to receive any kind of help from the government.
The third way that charities get money is by replacing paid labor with that of volunteers. This helps them cut their budget to allow for more money to go into the organization's mission.
