Trade Show Display System
Marie Roehampton
Colour and fonts are very important aspects to having an effective trade show display. Without colour and an attractive font, the display will not stand out and will just blend in with its surroundings. When this occurs, trade show customers simply walk on past and look for those booths that are incorporating noticeable colour and graphics into their display. That is why it is important to be sure colour becomes an integral part of the trade show display.
First of all, it is a good idea to stay away from cool colours such as blues, greens, and whites. The reason for this is because everything tends to be blue, green, and white. They are some of the most common colours used in everything. What you want your trade show display to be is anything but common. You want it to be uncommon since uncommon is what gets attention from prospective customers.
What you want to use are colours such as red, yellow, and orange and fonts that will really get attention. The reason why you want to use these colours and fonts are because they stand out and in a room full of blues and greens and these colours and fonts scream out, ?Look at me, I have what you want!? It is a natural human response to gravitate toward those things that are bright because bright means happiness and happiness is something no one can get enough of.
Nevertheless, it is good to be selective as to what bright colours and fonts are used because too much of a good thing can give them impression that you're trying too hard, so don't overwhelm the display with these bright colours and fancy fonts that are difficult to read. Have an attractive graphic and focus the colours around that graphic. Don't paint the entire display orange, but accent the booth to the point it will gain attention.
You can also use something as simple as colourful table cloths that can bring about attention while still relaying a professional image to the prospective customers. It is amazing how far something that simple can go in getting attention. If you have a colourful tablecloth and the display next to you does not, you are going to be the one more likely to receive visitors.
Something else to think of when developing the trade show display is the matching of colours and of the fonts. There have been times in which those running trade show booths have had a graphic designer design a graphic. In the meantime, tablecloths and paint are being purchased in anticipation of getting started on the display. The only problem with this is the fact that the graphic designer's version of red may not be the same as your version of red and then there are two different reds to contend with. The same goes for the fonts used in the graphic.
The best way to avoid colour and font conflicts from occurring is to wait for the graphic designer to finish the graphic. The reason for this is because it is easier for you to match colours and fonts to the graphic because that gives you a little more creative control. Requests to the graphic designer can still result in a little colour or font variation, but what's great is you can match colours and fonts up to the graphic instead of the graphic designer matching up to you. That process is considerably less complicated when doing it that way.
So by keeping these things in mind, you can have an attractive and easy to read font for your text and colours that will set you apart for the rest. Another important thing is that your display will possess consistency, which is very important to a professional display.
