What Causes Skin Rash
Allison Thompson
This article contains information on what a skin rash how it develops and ways in which they can be treated.
A skin rash will normally be defined as an abnormal appearance or texture to a person’s skin. Many rashes can be characterized by redness to the skin, bumps, blotches, cracks, blisters or swelling to areas of the body and in some cases may be accompanied by an itching sensation. However, in some severe cases the patient may also find that there is a fever as well. The rash that the person has got may either be a localized one or it may in fact spread to the whole body (such as chicken pox). Should anyone be suffering any of the above symptoms they should seek medical advice as soon as they can, as the condition can only worsen if not treated.
There are many reasons for skin rashes and each one of them is associated with a particular skin condition or particular disease. Any skin rash or condition should be seen by a dermatologist who will be able to diagnose what the problem is and what sort of treatment that the problem will require.
One such rash is contact dermatitis which is caused by the patient touching an object or something that has previously been contaminated by something or which provides an allergic reaction to your body.
Then there is eczema which is a skin problem which is related to people who suffer from allergies or asthma.
Another one is sebhoric dermatitis which deals with treatment of flaky skin on the body, such as that found on a persons scalp and is commonly known as dandruff.
Each form of skin rash is caused by certain problems and such things as an allergy to certain types of food, detergents, perfumes or plants can cause this problem. Whilst there are other sorts of rashes which are caused by diseases such as measles, chicken pox, shingles etc. However, if the problem is considered more serious than either of the previous two you may well be advised to have a skin biopsy to rule out any form of disease such as cancer.
However in this day and age there are many vaccinations now available that care of the myriad of diseases which could cause these rashes and in all cases you should maintain a hygienic routine should you suffer from them. If you do become affected by such a rash it is wise to find out what products or medications caused the problem and keep a list at hand to help prevent any further rashes developing. When ever possible it is advisable to avoid any over the counter remedies that are available, except for those that will treat the very basic skin problems that affect people nowadays. At all times it is advisable to get professional advice and take the medication that has been prescribed to treat the problem.
Today you will find that there are a large selection of creams and lotions available which will help to alleviate many skin problems and in some cases you may find that your doctor or dermatologist will prescribe a course of antibiotics to treat the problem. By reading up on some basic medical treatments and asking your doctor for some tips as well as having a first aid kit to hand you may well prevent a very simple rash from becoming a major problem in the future.
