Tiffany & Co - A Heritage Of Innovation
Dave Simpson
For over 170 years now, Tiffany & Co has been creating some of the world's most stylish and elegant high quality . The company was founded in New York in 1937 by Charles Tiffany and Teddy Young and soon they were creating designs for the most celebrated individuals of the time, names like the Astors, Vanderbilts and Morgans. Their jewellery was highly sought after and became very fashionable amongst the theatre and sports celebrities of the day.
In the late 1800's Charles Tiffany became especially famous for creating his amazing diamond designs, so much so that he was dubbed "The King of Diamonds" by the New York press. Tiffany further cemented this reputation by purchasing the French Crown Jewels in 1887, an audacious move which led to the company becoming recognised as the world's foremost authority on fine diamonds - a reputation which lasts to this day. Today, the world-famous 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond is on permanent display in the New York flagship store-proof positive of Tiffany's diamond legacy.
It was Tiffany & Co that developed the as we know it today. They pioneered the famous six-prong "Tiffany® Setting" which lifts the diamond above the band and into the light resulting in a ring of unparalleled beauty.
Their world famous store on Fifth Avenue, New York still sells the highest quality jewellery, china and crystal to be found anywhere. There are many items that only the seriously wealthy can afford but it might come as a pleasant surprise to learn that there is also a selection of less expensive items (key chains, money clips, etc.) that make great New York City souvenirs. As a visit to London requires a shopping bag from Harrods, so a visit to New York is not complete without a trinket from this most iconic store. Even if you can't afford to make a purchase, you can still make like Holly Golightly from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and window shop. The store is ideally suited to browsing as so many of the products are well displayed in glass cabinets. I recommend it for all you shopaholics as a never to be missed experience.
