More and more people using the Internet, irrespective of why they use it, are having a profound effect on the designs of t-shirts sold online. For instance, have you ever thought of a catch-phrase or funny line and believed it would look great printed on a shirt? Not surprisingly, the majority of people like you believe they can do a better job than shirt manufacturers and would love to see their idea on chests across the country.
Due to retail competition and the decreasing cost of having shirts printed, people in the business need your help more often than not. The reason? Site owners, bloggers, artists and entrepreneurs are realizing that selling t-shirts online is more lucrative than the original ideas that attracted them to the Internet.
It seems that t-shirts are the ideal online product... at least for right now! The reason is t-shirts can represent the rebellion that epitomize web users and, therefore, display a persons online travels.
So to get your idea printed on an easy to produce and easy to deliver t-shirt, costing around $20, here's what you do:
1. Look to Current affairs or TV for inspiration
2. Think up short puns or catchy lines (anything referring to recent events will stand out).
3. Contact any of the numerous sites selling t-shirts and "pitch" your idea (I doubt they would pay you a consideration but it never hurts to ask).
4. Visit cafepress.com or spreadshirt.com who let you design t-shirts (online) and sell them from a website they help you create (more about that later).
5. Shout from the rooftops with glee!
For those 'nay sayers' among you, consider Rodney Blackwell who created a t-shirt declaring "Can't sleep, clowns will eat me...", which is available on his cool and crazy ihateclowns.com. Mr. Blackwells site has been going for nine years and covers its costs by selling up to 90 t-shirts each month at $15 per shirt. Good work if you can get it.
I’ve just setup a website selling urban shirts -- Skidrowear Clothing at spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=94788 -- and would welcome any ideas for designs you have. I’m not proud! I just love cool or funny t-shirts and hope to share them with anyone else who appreciates great design (artwork or copy).
Here’s why it's not difficult to earn money from t-shirts. Many merchants get their t-shirts from cafepress.com, in San Leandro, California, as mentioned earlier. This company prints designs on shirts and other products and (very important) ships them directly to the customers visiting your website. CafePress charges a merchant a basic price, let’s say $10 for a t-shirt with your customized logo printed on it. You ca then charge $20 or more for the finished item. $10 per shirt income is very good work if you can get it… and minimal business hassle.
Today there are an estimated 1,500 websites selling t-shirts and, if you wish to go that far, yours could be one of them. However, always remember, nobody ever felt bad by having their funny t-shirt worn by everybody else.
