Itch is a common problem. Itches can be localized (limited to one area of the body) or generalized (in which itching occurs all over the body or in several different areas). There are many causes of itching, ranging from the simple to the complex.
Dysesthetic itching may occur suddenly and intensely, but for brief periods. It may be present over any part of the body or face. It is different from the generalized itching that can accompany an allergic reaction, as there is no external skin rash or irritation at the site of itching.
Systemic diseases that can cause itching include liver disease, kidney failure, lymphomas, leukemias and other blood disorders, and, occasionally, thyroid disease, diabetes, and cancer. However, itching from these diseases usually does not result in a rash.
Causes of Itching is a sensation common to a number of skin disorders, including psoriasis. It is a common sensation not specifically associated with any particular skin disorder, and may sometimes seem entirely random - for example, the spontaneous ?itchy spot? on the nose, cheek, etc. There are many causes for itch, from insect bites and parasitic infestations such as scabies, to skin conditions such as eczema, or generalized conditions such as jaundice or leukemia. Environmental conditions and contact with irritant chemicals can also cause itching.
If you have any skin conditions such as including eczema, psoriasis, lichen planus and rosacea. It can also cause itching. An itch that is accompanied by lesions usually should be evaluated by a physician and, in some cases, by a dermatologist since the problem is likely to be a condition that requires specialized medical treatment.
Home Remedies for *Ziploc bag filled with ice and wrapped in a kitchen towel and take 1 capsule of Benadryl. The ice will soon numb the site and the Benadryl will temporarily ease the itch. Works on any type of itch, just make sure you use the towel around the bag to avoid skin damage.
*Apply Aloe Vera, cod liver oil, lemon juice, vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil, or witch hazel tea to the itchy area.
*Baking soda can be used in cool bath water to soothe other skin irritations and alleviate itching from prickly heat, bee stings, insect bites, and other minor skin ailments.
*Neem is an effective remedy for all types of skin problems. Application of neem oil to the affected areas gives relief from itching. Neem bath can also be taken by boiling the neem leaves in bath water.
*Put some cornstarch in your bath water. Cornstarch helps in relieving itching.
*Take a bath in one can of evaporated milk; you can add other combinations such as oatmeal, baking soda etc. The milk works well to soothe the itching.
