Do It Yourself Email Marketing
Mike Row
If you don't have a list, it's time for you to change your strategy. No matter how much you like the idea of making direct sales and ignoring repeat buyers, you should not let your visceral preferences override your willingness to make good businesses decisions. And without question, this is a good business decision.
You can start an email list by purchasing an autoresponder account. I personally suggest that you create an account with Aweber; however, there are other autoresponder services available at comparable prices, too, such as GetResponse.
Once you sign up for an autoresponder service, you will want to create several introductory emails. If you plan to send out an Internet marketing newsletter, you may want to include all archived editions of the newsletter in the first wave of autoresponder messages.
Once you have loaded a few introductory messages into your autoresponder series (and have set appropriate times between sending dates), you will want to start working on an opt-in page or "squeeze page" for your website.
Your "squeeze page" should be simple and should consist of the following items: 1) an opt-in form, which you can generate through your autoresponder service; 2) a basic description of your newsletter; and 3) a call to action that clearly explains why visitors should sign up.
Once your squeeze page is complete, you can use the full power of your marketing arsenal to drive traffic to it. Your goal here should be to get people who would otherwise be one time visitors or buyers to instead sign up for your list. Use article marketing, search engine optimization, blogging, etc. to pull in visitors and get them to join.
Once you start to fill up your list, you will want to think of some of the ways in which you can market to these visitors. You will want to avoid looking like one of those list owners who uses his list exclusively to sell products; however, at the same time, you will want to make sure that you try to sell something at least once each month.
Remember, email marketing does not have to be used exclusively or your own products. You can also become an affiliate for major product launches (or already existing products) and then market them to your list members, too. All in all, creating a list and providing it with high-quality content will give you a far greater chance of making more money from each visitor.
So follow the advice above. Start by signing up for an autoresponder service. After that, create your opt-in forum, place it on your squeeze-page. Then, fill your autoresponder with good content. And last, start driving traffic to it through any means you know of.
