Thought You Knew Lyrics
Marcel Stephenson
Numerous myths have been exposed about acne, but still people are ignorant about them.
First, there is a myth about greasy foods causing acne. This is probably the most popular myth and has been proven completely untrue. Chocolate has also been attributed to causing acne. Once again, this is completely false. The only way such foods may cause an outbreak is if you happen to be allergic to them, in which case you shouldn't be eating them anyway.
Second, there is the myth about acne being caused by a lack of hygiene. One's facial hygiene really has nothing to do with one's acne. While it is of course a good idea to have good facial hygiene, the cause of acne is by bacteria beneath the skin, not on top of it. It is for this reason that the best acne treatments are those that treat acne from the inside out, not the other way around.
The third myth is that stress causes acne outbreaks. This only happens rarely in people that are already prone to outbreaks. The average person, adult or teen, exposed to regular, everyday stress is not necessarily going to get acne.
The fourth myth is that acne should be left untreated, it will go away naturally. Acne issues are more than just cosmetic, but on the surface it may seem true. If acne is left without any treatment, it can leave you with serious scars on your face, which will affect you forever.
This can lead to real self-esteem and confidence issues. Think about some actors or other celebrities with acne scarring. It's not difficult to bring them to mind and in fact, that's probably the first thing you noticed when you first saw them or the first thing you remember about them when you recall their face.
Finally it is the one that says that nothing can be done about acne. For a long time, parents let children that suffered from acne go untreated. They thought it was just part of puberty, therefore something they had to go through - what they did not realize was the long term effects it could have. Today there are lots of acne treatments on the market that have proved to be effective.
