Whether you've been trying to get pregnant, or your unsure, knowing all of the signs of pregnancy is important to recognizing whether it's time to take that pregnancy test or not. If pregnancy is suspected, it's important to take a test as soon as possible; the earlier prenatal care can start the better chance a fetus has at full and healthy development. It's also important to know as early as possible so mom can adjust her diet to accommodate for the little bundle of joy growing; alcohol, drugs, and even caffeine can have a harmful effect in these early stages.

1. Most women find out they're expecting a little one in nine months is by missing a menstrual cycle. While this is often the most common tell tale sign, it isn't always fail proof. While it may be rare, some women experience their first period or two after conception, while other times a period may be missed due to stress. It's important to know the other signs that can be present to determine if conception may have occurred.

2. Another sign that is a good indicator of pregnancy is a sustained high basal body temperature, or BBT. While this is normal with a woman's monthly on cycle, if it remains high after 18 days, chances are high that conception has occurred. A BBT thermometer is available at the drugstore for less than $10 and readings are best taken in the morning before even getting out of bed.

3. There are many other signs that can indicate pregnancy that can occur in the earliest stages. These signs are similar to what a woman may experience before her normal menstrual cycle, such as bloating, backaches, and mood swings. Much of these early symptoms are the cause of high levels of hormones running through the body working to prepare for pregnancy.

7. A sensitivity to smells is another common symptom associated with pregnancy. Many women will have a strong aversion to smells that previously didn't bother them, while other women may crave certain foods they didn't before.

While these symptoms alone may mean nothing serious, experienced in conjunction they can be a good indicator of pregnancy. It's important to note that while some women may experience just a few of these signs, others may experience none of them. Every woman is different as is every pregnancy.
