Barong tagalog is a natural fiber from banana leaves. Barong tagalog is also pina, a higher end version in pineapple leaves hand woven and commonly hand embroidered. There is the arrival of pina jusi which is actually jusi (or natural silk) lightly hand painted to mimic the look of pina.
Colors have been used to add versatility to the barong. Champagne is in, which is the color of pina jusi and pina, used mostly in weddings and social occasions. Black is always there, replacing suits and tuxedos during the hot summer season.
Barong tagalog is portrayed as a national costume but due to the ingenuity in modern design and passion for fashion of Filipinos, it has been worn on important occasions by many with pride and dignity to show patriotism with style.
