Places To Visit In The North
York has over 2 million visitors a year, whether it's to see the Minster, Railway Museum, a walk along the Shambles, York Dungeons, Roman Bath Museum, Ghost Walks, or a boat cruise along the river. You can walk all the way round the great city walls. Also known, as Jorvik was an important trading center for the Vikings. The Minster has been plagued by fire over the years, but has always managed to survive it has kept its history and marvellous unique architecture.
Harrogate is famous for it's Turkish Baths, at least an hour and half is needed to spend here, Mother Shipton's Cave, tea shops, flower shows and antique shops. It's also famous for it's associations with Agatha Christie, the great mystery writer. She disappeared here for a few days back in the 1930's.
Ripon has a beautiful cathedral, Fountains Abbey and unforgettable Studley Royal Deer Park, with over 500 Roe and Fallow deer, watch them being fed, walk among them. Lightwater Valley Theme Park, there are halls and gardens. It also has a horseracing track. Not far from the North Yorkshire Moors and the Dales.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park, houses Britain's famous long distance footpath The Pennine Way, it's also featured in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. They were also inspiration for the classical works of the Bronte Sisters. There are plenty of caves and potholes to explore with underground rivers and waterfalls, huge chambers to explore. For solitude and natural beauty the Yorkshire Dales still amaze everyone.
The Yorkshire Moors stretch from the Vale of York, to the Yorkshire Coast. The Moors have fantastic scenery and walks, but always go prepared, even though the weather may be nice when you set out, it can change to wet, windy and thick fog in an instant.
The Yorkshire Coast has the popular resorts of Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Bridlington. Whitby has been used in the TV programme Heartbeat and is also famous for its Scampi.
Thirsk is famous for the vet series All Creatures Great and Small, there is the Herriot Museum, which was the actual building used in the programme. For many years it was a staging post between London and the North.
All of these places have plenty of Hotels and B&B's and many other attractions.
