Should I Upgrade To Windows Vista
Mike Selvon
In the last year, Microsoft Windows introduced their newest version of their operating system, called Windows Vista. This was a highly anticipated release and included many enhancements that Windows users had been looking forward to for some time. However, there have been some problems reported with Vista and unless you are having some issues with your current version of Windows, you might want to wait to upgrade.
This article should help you navigate through the various considerations and help you to understand if now is the right time to make the move to Vista or if you should hold off for awhile. On the positive side, it has been noted that Vista seems to operate more reliably and with fewer operating system crashes than what people tend to experience with Windows XP.
In addition, Windows Vista has also been shown to improve some of the basic operating features of Windows. Many users also claim that Vista provides improved built-in support and help options which can make trouble-shooting go more smoothly.
On the negative side of things, the search function in the Vista Home Basic version is not easily located on the desktop. Instead, the search function has been "buried" inside the applications or you need to go through the Start Menu. For some people this is not really a major issue, but for others who use this function frequently it has been reported as an annoyance.
So far there has been very little computer software written specifically for Vista. This is sure to change soon and no doubt there is a great deal of software development going on, with regard to writing applications specifically to take advantage of the new aspects of Vista.
However, this fact has led the pc pundits and experts to tell people that there is really no urgent need to make the move to Vista at this time. This is especially true if you are content with your system just the way it is, as it provides very little motivation to upgrade from Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
At the same time, for those who are looking at purchasing a new pc and wondering which Windows operating system to choose, the experts say that Vista is certainly stable enough. It makes sense when buying a new computer to go ahead and get the most current operating system available, as long as it will be trouble free.
That said, unless you are unhappy for some reason with your current version of Windows, the expense of upgrading to Windows Vista is really not justified at this point. That will undoubtedly change when the software publishers start releasing new versions. You will also need to consider the cost of upgrading those software packages when that time comes.
