Everyone has heard of the first method, probably the one tried the most, going cold turkey. Cold turkey is throwing out your cigarettes and vowing to never smoke again. For those with exceptional willpower, this really works. For many people, they struggle and/or fail doing this. If you are going to go cold turkey, you might want to gradually limit your nicotine intake over a period of time as well as change your diet to avoid sever withdrawal symptoms. If you have superior willpower, go with this. If not, try something else.
Another common method is hypnosis. This is where you have someone free you from your mental addiction to nicotine. While it has worked for some, others have a different story. The debate is whether you are using your own willpower or if hypnosis is actually helping. There is nothing wrong in trying, but statistics aren't favoring hypnosis as a good method to stop smoking.
Yet another method (and one of the better ones) is to use quit smoking aids. These would be the patches, gums, and pills that can assist in the process. You have to be careful in your choice of these items since many have high doses of nicotine. You might break your habit with cigarettes but may also still be addicted to nicotine.
There are pills and gums that don't have any nicotine that help curb the effects of withdrawal. This could be the best way to quit smoking because it aids your willpower.
With all the methods out there, remember there is no easy way to quit smoking.
