You tend to focus on the little things to begin with; that pair of jeans that you could never get into previously now fit you perfectly. In fact, many people need to go through their wardrobes to have a proper clear out of all those clothes that they no longer need to wear - the old clothes get binned, whilst the new smaller sizes come back to stay.
But losing weight goes much further than simply enjoying that moment when you finally reach the size or weight you were aiming for. Many people actually find their lives change in so many more ways than simply dropping a dress size or two ? or even more.
Many overweight people find it difficult to exercise to any great extent; even if they want to. Depending on the amount of extra weight they are carrying, they sometimes find it hard to do everything they would like to do.
Once they get back down to their ideal weight however, things tend to change markedly. For starters, many people become more active even as they are losing weight; this helps them get fitter and in turn will achieve even more. And for someone who has not been out and about to any great extent before, this can be a life changing experience.
Of course, there are also long term health benefits which come into play. There are so many different diseases and ailments that overweight people are more likely to suffer from. And even as you are losing weight you will be reducing your risks of becoming a victim of one or more common problems as time goes on.
A lot of people think that the long term benefits of losing weight are purely physical, but this isn't true. If you are overweight you will know that it can make you feel low or depressed. But as soon as that weight comes off, many people instantly feel better, more confident and more in control of how their lives are proceeding.
Indeed, some people change more than others, but everyone who has ever lost a healthy amount of weight and finally achieved their ideal body weight has felt better for it. No matter whether they have done it through dieting, exercise or , the end result of feeling fantastic is the same.
If you are considering the idea of losing some excess weight, try focusing on those long term benefits as you work towards your goal - they will keep you on track much more easily.
