The Capital City Of Australia
Douglas Scott
Canberra is the capital city of Australia with a population of over 332000, is Australias largest inland city. The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory. As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is the site of the High Court of Australia, Parliament House and numerous government departments and agencies.
Canberra is often described by Australians who have not been there as a boring town, full of politicians, bureaucrats. But it has beautiful galleries and museums clustered around a lake. One of only two capital cities in the world that have been built to a premeditated design. Placed about its nice, planned combinations of straight and curving streets are the old and new Parliament Houses, the National Museum, and the National Gallery.
It is worth visiting Old Parliament House, even if you do not go in side just to see the attractive building where, until recently, was the home to Parliament. The Parliament government stayed there from 1927 right up until 1988.
It is possible to visit nearly all areas of the Old Parliament House. As you wander around, you will pass Kings Hall, the House of Representatives Chamber, the Corridors of Power, the Ministerial Party Room, the Prime Ministers Office, the Senate Chamber, the Cabinet Room, the National Portrait Gallery, the Suite of the President of the Senate, the House Gallery the Senate Club Room and the Strangers Gallery
The Telstra Tower is a great place to visit in Canberra. There is a great view from the top of it and a very good restaurant.
The Westfield Shopping Centre is one of the best Canberra shopping locations because it is everything all in one. No matter what you need to buy on your Canberra shopping trip you should be able to find it at the Westfield Shopping Centre. The art and craft market at the Old Bus Depot because every Sunday you can buy all sorts of delicious foods and local crafts. Bunda Street for some great Canberra shopping. Here there are tons of shops, stores, and malls that will have a wide variety.
Kingston offers a range of reasonably priced restaurants and cafes. Alternatively Dickson offers a complete range of restaurants at varying prices. There are also various snack bars in the numerous shopping centres in and around the city, and cheaper eating places and entertainment at the University Student Union on University Avenue. The majority of the restaurants and cafes can be found on Fournier, Bougainville and Franklin Streets as well as on Flinders Way.
