Male breasts (medically known as gynecomastia) is a rampant problem on the rise today. A Traumatic condition that is usually not understood properly by most, gynecomastia is highly common in men between ages of 15 to 24. Despite its extreme occurrence, the medical world has still not produced a good cure for male breasts. Even so, there are other treatment options that offer great hope to sufferers of this condition. The most important aspect of treating gynecomastia is making sure that one understands the causes and factors behind man boobs.
What Causes Man Boobs?
Usually, a fatty diet is blamed as the source of gynecomastia. The often missed, but important factor behind man boobs involves more than just a fat-laden diet. While increased amounts of fat could possibly result in 'fat deposits', there are many men who are not over-weight who still gain fat around their nipples making it look like they have gynecomastia. In most cases, the most important factor resulting in in male breasts is a disturbance in the hormone levels. This hormonal imbalance is usually found in men with little to no exercise, and an overall poor diet. It makes sense then that, though it may appear that excess fat is the culprit, this is false.
Man Boob Symptoms
As phrases such as man boobs or male breasts would indicate, gynecomastia is defined as the condition where a man with little to no medical problems experiences an increasing amount of fat deposits under the breasts especially in the nipple area, making it appear similar to female breasts. While often the breasts are proportional to the fat deposits on the rest of the body, in many cases, they may be much larger, resulting in widespread ridicule and distress.
Gynecomastia Treatment
There have been quite a few gynecomastia treatment options offered, most of which do more harm than good:
1. Surgery - This option is used by many men who have very little hope left. Permissible amounts of fat are surgically removed after surgically opening the breasts. While this may have an immediate effect, in the long tun, it may or may not be effective. Secondly, there is a danger of permanent scar tissue developing under the chest (which may result in permanent male breasts) makes this a poor choice. This procedure, as expected, is very expensive, and carries secondary risks, like all surgeries.
2. Drugs and Medication - Widely prescribed, these drugs have yet to show any promise. Additionally, the side effects and high costs make this an unattractive option for a man suffering from gynecomastia.
3. Maskers - This category houses anything that doesn't help with gynecomastia, but is designed simply to prevent public embarrassment from it. A good example of a masker is the gynecomastia vest, which works in a manner very similar to a corssette. As mentioned before, this doesn't really help treat the condition, and only lasts as long as you keep the shirt on.
4. Exercises for getting rid of man boobs - Though these work, one needs to have a good knowledge of which ones work, and pursue them diligently. Additionally, this may not directly help with the gynecomastia resulting from excessive hormonal imbalance and can essentially only help with developing muscle in the chest.
The optimum choice is to use an eclectic system of treatment that combines the various components of the treatment in a plan that swiftly helps cure male breasts.
