As reported in the columns and on the web too, Global IT services and solutions provider, Ness Technologies in the beginning of this year had announced a progressive social responsibility and corporate governance initiative known as ?traffic pointers? in collaboration with the Bangalore traffic police. The company had distributed 1500 safety headgears, the helmets to its employees at its facilities in Bangalore and Mumbai.
President and CEO of Ness Technologies said, ?For a company to create added value, it must always place the primary focus on social values. However, this can only be successful for a long term if a company's social responsibility is implemented as an integral part of its business strategy.?
The traffic safety initiative came in the face of a daunting task, as the traffic police chief said, of reducing the number of accidents in the city of Bangalore. The last years? figures on accidents were around 9 to 10 thousand and accidental deaths were around 800. The police chief commended the collaboration private sector without which ?it's impossible to implement such things?.
The traffic pointers initiative occurs in National Road safety week observed across India from 2nd to 8th Jan. With the launch of Traffic pointers forum, the company aims at roping in leading global corporations, providing them a platform to discuss their views on traffic hazards, generate resources for their employees and facilitate contribution to generic traffic safety measures in conjunction with traffic police and key influencers.
The distribution of helmets was intended to encourage the employees to inculcate road safety norms in their driving habits. A worldwide global road safety programme called MADD (Mothers against drunken driving) motivates young drivers through emotional pressure.
The Bangalore move is hoped to sensitize the community elsewhere. Thus on the latest traffic news about, places like Delhi, being the capital state, Mumbai and Chennai should take the lead as the road fatalities in these cities are much higher.
