A bedroom is a distinct part of the house meant primarily to relax and unwind after a long day's work or while recovering from an illness. It is one place that helps fatigue fade away and be replaced by a refreshed and energized feeling. Bedrooms have been made as an exclusive part of every home since the earliest times as the living abode grew in size. This was to provide privacy at a time of rest and sleep. The privacy factor continues and the number of bedrooms, determined by the size of the house, is the deciding factor for the allotment of bedrooms. The biggest room is called the master bedroom meant for the husband-wife couple and this has the most beautiful furniture, accessories and decor. The master bedroom is now treated as a stylish retreat meant for relaxing activities like listening to music, watching television, and all efforts are made to furnish it a manner that soothes and appeals to one's softer senses.
The rooms in any house get names based on their utility after furniture has been placed in them. A bedroom thus will always have a large bed, some seating arrangement with sofa sets or chairs, dresser, wardrobes, a bookcase, nightstand, electrical and electronic equipment like televisions and music systems and other accessories like clocks and telephones, lamps and pictures, depending on personal requirements. All these add up to give a look of elegance and style to the master bedroom. Bedrooms often come with bathrooms attached to them, though in houses with multiple bedrooms, all of them may not have the luxury of a bathroom attached.
Children's bedrooms have an entirely different look altogether. They are bright and colorful and have the childish sparkle to their inviting appeal, which is in stark contrast to the sophistication of the parents' bedroom. The children's room is likely to have smaller beds or bunk beds, study tables and bookshelves cabinets for toys and wardrobes, and other things needed by children. Modern trends point to differentiating colors for boys and girls. Pink is selected for a girl's room and blue for boys, and the idea is to have everything- and accessories in these colors. Another contrast between rooms for girls and boys is in the things that one would see, while girls are likely to have a dollhouse with dolls, boys will positively have basketballs and Superman posters. The prospect of a boy and girl sharing a room can lead to a conflict unless parents choose neutral colors like beige, off-white, yellow or green.
A guest is always nice to have if space permits. It may be simply furnished and functional but is helpful, as children need not shift out each time a visitor comes to stay. Homes in Singapore are planned for families and there is often space for a guest bedroom.
