Reduce Anxiety And Stress
Graeme Teague
There is a modern day saying ‘be careful what you wish for, because you will get it’.
So how can you apply this knowledge so you can eliminate anxiety and stress?
Firstly, look at the dialogue you have inside you head. Is it positive or negative? Do you beat yourself up for the mistakes you make, create more anxiety or stress? Do you place extremely high demands on yourself and then expect to fail?
The words you say to yourself will create the anxiety and stress around you.
Have a look around you…
There will be people around you where everything goes right. Luck is on their side. The bread hits the ground with the ‘butter side up’, whereas you always get the butter side on the ground. You just aren’t as lucky as others; things just don’t seem to work out …
Ooopps, there is that internal dialogue again.
So what you say to yourself is important. How can you make a change so that you have more positive words, that you expect things to go right all the time, words so stress and anxiety are non-existent?
Simple…
Talk to yourself. Now don’t worry, talking to yourself is not a sign of madness. Talking to yourself is completely normal, especially as you don’t have to talk out loud. Just talk to yourself mentally … it is just internal talk about your stress and anxiety.
What do you say?
Positive mental statements.
How do you say them?
You make statements as if they already exist, don’t force them. Just say them causally, lightly and with the feeling that the situation exists already.
So using this technique you can goal set and reprogram your mind to eliminate anxiety and stress. You put into your subconscious events you want to happen and they will mirror out and become true.
Implant the seed and watch it grow.
Do you have to believe what you implant?
No. Just fake it until you make it. Just implant what you truly want and let the rest be up to your mind to generate … after all this is a way to stop anxiety and stress, not increase it.
So how do you start?
Work out exactly what you want, what you want to be like, in every area of your life… your anxiety and stress levels … career … relationships … finances … and other stress and anxiety issues.
Write down a short concise statement to cover all or parts of these. The words you say should be only positive and that things have already happened.
Don’t say ‘I will’ or ‘I must’ or ‘I want’. These are positive but in the wrong tense, they may actually increase stress and anxiety. Say ‘I am’ or ‘I have’ as these state that the condition already exists. For example “I am free of anxiety and stress at work".
Keep the statement to seven words or less. Although there is a good statement used for years (Emile Coue used this to help people heal faster), that says …
‘Day by day in every way, I am getting better, better and better’
Thirteen very powerful words. Longer than it should but ideal as a positive statement. Why?
You can write a list of all the positive traits you wish to have, all the goals to eliminate stress and anxiety. Write them all down, look at it every day and then say often …
‘Day by day in every way, I am getting better, better and better’
This statement will apply to all you have written. It means each day you will get better and better. That your goals are happening and stress and anxiety are disappearing all the time.
How often should you say it?
Say it twenty times before you go to sleep, twenty times when you wake and twenty times in some stage of your day. Do it every day for at least 31 days, as it takes 31 days to form a habit.
Then say it every day after that, make it a simple thing to do whenever there is any disturbance in your life, if there is stress or anxiety building up or things are just ‘not quite right’. Before long you will be free of anxiety and stress … as ‘Day by day in every way, I am getting better, better and better’
