It is common knowledge that fast food contains items that are high in fat. While they taste great, they are not a healthy food choice. There have been lawsuits against McDonald's and other fast food chains by individuals who claim that their food has made them fat. The dietary information was not hidden from the individuals and no one was forcing them to eat it. This makes one wonder how they can even think they have a reason to pursue financial gain from a lawsuit.

Breaking and entering is a criminal act regardless of the circumstances surrounding it. There have been several lawsuits filed by criminals because they have gotten hurt during the activity. One individual sued a restaurant because he got caught in a heater duct while trying to break in and rob the business.

Too many adults don't make their children accept responsibility for their actions. Instead of disciplining them for their poor choices, they choose to sue the makers of clothing, music, and video games. They claim such material leads their children to follow the same behaviors. Yet the reality of it is that the parents who file these lawsuits are the ones responsible for making such purchases for their children.

Being stood up for a date is a hard concept to take, but it does happen without the world coming to an end. A new trend in lawsuits is suing the party who did not show up. One girl and her parents sued a boy who invited her to the prom but failed to show up the night of the dance. They won money for her dress, accessories, and her suffering. This has led to brides and grooms doing the same for the cost of the wedding and reception if they find they have been left at the alter.

Our legal system definitely offers some wonderful aspects of it, yet these types of frivolous lawsuits have been making a joke of the legal system. Where does that line get drawn as individuals do have the right to proceed with any type of lawsuit they wish to file? This has lead to court dockets being bogged down though and the more important crimes that need to be dealt with drag on for years because of it.

Something to think on: Perhaps, though, there is nothing wrong with our legal system. Perhaps it's just that we as individuals are not taking responsibility for our actions.
