Proper Posture
Cassandra Seveny
Standing up tall and straight will do a number of things for you including looking more self assured and self confident as well as appearing thinner. If due to extended hours of working at your computer, your posture has changed to an almost permanent slump there is a solution. If you want to improve your posture, practicing these steps will help.
Stand against the wall. At the start of the day for at least ten minutes, get ready for improved posture. Put your back against the wall while standing. Stretch your body upwards until you are in a straight line.
Pilates or yoga are also options. Because people who engage in Yoga and Pilates focus on their body, they often have great posture. The spine will be elongated and released of tension. To improve your posture try adding yoga or maybe Pilates to your regular regime; about twice a week will help.
While supportive chairs cost money, they can be a great investment. If you have a job that requires you to sit at your desk for hours at a time it is important to consider the type of chair you use. You will put in just as much time in the chair at your desk as you will in your own bed. Any chair you use, whether in the office or home, should be comfortable, fit ergonomically with your body, and must have support for your lower back. It is important that you sit in the posture the chair was designed for.
Be active. A problem with a good position is that our muscles hate being in the same position for a long time. It is a good idea to move away from your desk for a few moments about once an hour. Move yourself to the printer or bathroom.
Moving around should make your shoulders stronger. Good posture is the result of strong upper back and shoulder muscles. When considering your workout routine it is important that you don't forget about this area. When you exercise, develop strong shoulders, not just toned upper arms. When you take your stroll away from your desk every hour then try to stretch and roll your shoulders to get the blood going back into the muscles.
In order to stand straighter, our spines need adjustment. Your feet should be about shoulder width apart when you stand. Your lower back can be straightened, which relieves the pressure, by tucking your pelvis under. Keep your knees and hips loose. Focus on your posture. Your backbone, specifically the vertebrae, is meant to be in a straight line; imagine it so from the bottom of your spine to your skull. As you straighten your back, relax it as you move. When you are in line, stay in the position for the longest time you can. In the beginning, you can only tolerate half a minute, but if you increase the time on a daily basis, you should be able to hold the position for five minutes at least.
When you have adjusted your spine, rest on the ground and move the muscles which are tense.
Improving your posture is just like everything else - practice makes perfect. In a short matter of time, you will realize that your body is more in line or even taller without having to think about maintaining a good position.
Among the many benefits of improving you posture is a strengthening of the muscles around your spine. Good posture can help you appear more confident. These steps will help you begin to improve your posture.
