Sightseeing In Rome

Rome is a beautiful city with rich history and heritage. In the city, you can explore all kinds of ancient places - ruins, castles, museums, tombs, monuments, etc. When visiting Rome, be sure to plan for your trip wisely. Time management is of utmost importance if you want to get the most out of your trip. Here are some places of interest for sight seeing purposes.
Domus Aurea
This used to be the home of emperor Nero. It was so huge that at one point, people believed that it covered one third of Rome! Today, the place is reduced to ruins. But you can still witness the grandeur of the place, just from the ruins. You can imagine how big the place is. Emperor Nero sure know how to spend his fortune!
Palatine
Palatine was one of the earliest castle to be built in Rome. Back in ancient times, Palatine symbolized prime real estate. Emperors used to live in this castle. Palatine is still standing today, partly in ruins. It is surrounded by trees, so you can expect the trip to be a nature hike as well. Be sure to bring some food and drinks with you so that you can have some refreshments whenever you feel hungry.
Colosseum
This is a must-see monument in Rome. Remember seeing gladiators fighting for their lives in the movies? This is the real deal. It's a real amphitheater that was used by gladiators many years ago. From the outside, you may already be awed by the size of the monument. Try going into the amphitheater to see the interior of the monument. It's a humbling experience. The sheer size of the monument will impress anyone.
Roman Forum
The Roman Forum is where many political meetings take place. For a moment, imagine yourself meeting with the politicians of Rome, including the great Julius Caesar himself. It is a 2000 year old monument, so you can expect it to look a little worn out. But partial preservation have been taking place to restore the site. Just standing in the Forum, you get a good feel of how majestic and powerful Rome was back in ancient times.
Baths of Caracalla
This is an imperial bathing complex, which means that only important people get to bath here. It is one of the best preserved bathing complex. From the materials and designs of the complex, you can easily see that it must have been a grand experience for the imperial staff who used to bath in this complex. Of course, water is no longer running.
Other places of interest include Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and more. Take your time when visiting these destinations. Use your imagination to travel back in time and experience the lifestyles of the rich and powerful in Rome.
