Hard Drive the two magic words, have been part of our lives since a long time, it is the unsung hero, who stands behind and does a lot work. Ok enough of the flowery language, let's get to work. Here are some tidy tips and solutions regarding hard drives that I collected over the years that I think would be handy, thanks to some really helpful websites.
1) Increase the cache on your Hard Disk
A cache is a temporary area that stores accessed data, so that you can access it quickly. Here is how you increase the cache space-
? Select Run
? Type in regedit
? Detect the command-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management and then change the LargeSystemCache DWORD from 0 to 1.
2) Make more free space be available from the existing free space.
There are many times that you can see that you have a lot of free space but not all of it is available. Here are some ways to get more space.
? Reduce the number of small files that you have, zipping it if you can't dispose it is a good option.
? Use NTFS and not FAT.
? Use NTFS file compression.
3) If you want to delete a file that refuses to get deleted
There are times when there are some really pesky files that just refuses to get deleted, here are some easy ways to get them off.
? Deactivate the Indexing Service and then try and delete the file.
? Take Notepad, use the Open Option and then try and delete the file. And clear it from your recycle bin.
? Get a reliable Anti Virus Software like- BitDefender, Kaspersky 7, ESET NOD32, AVG Anti-Virus 8
? Run your system on safe mode, the theory behind this is that, most virus are active while running in the normal mode.
? Make sure that the file is not in use by any other user in the computer.
4) Make sure that you don't have file names that are not longer than 8 letters, because this results in more work for the computer.
These are four things that I wanted to focus in this article, too much of anything can get really boring! More for later.
